I stayed at this hotel five years ago whilst on a coach tour and found it to be very nice with lovely surroundings. Recently returned from a two week driving trip around California so thought I would pick this hotel again for a one night stop.
We were hugely dissappointed, the hotel was under new management and no longer a Howard Johnson and has gone to the dogs. It was all very tatty, walking to our room several of the door locks had been broken. Granted they let us check in three hours early but the reason why there was no-one else staying there. The place was a ghost town. The room was ok for one night but not up to standards of others we had stayed in. There was no towels for the pool so we asked at the reception and they said to take them from our room and they would get someone to bring up some more. ( we never got them) However the receptionist was very nice and friendly.
The pool was really neglected, paint chipping off, it didn't look like it had been cleaned for some time and the steps to get into the pool was nearly falling off the wall. The jacuzzi's were cold and pool was warm. It was nice to have the pool to ourselves I suppose and it does have a lovely view of the mountains. Most of the sun loungers are broken, you sit on them and the legs give way. I sat on three before I found one intact. We remembered the palm trees surrounding the pool was lit up at night but this visit they did not even switch them on. I was really disappointed with my stay here and would not stay there again, it has ruined all the wonderful memories of our previous trip and I can't believe the hotel has got into this state in such a short space of time. I think you can get a much better hotel for the same money nearer the town. Avoid!!!
