My brother-in-law, my two sisters, my boyfriend, and I drove out to Palm Springs for a mini-vacation, arriving on Thursday, June 5, and departing on Saturday, June 7. I conduct more due dilgence than just about anyone I know, so I was well aware of the negative reviews on this site and others and therefore did not have high expectations. But, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience I had. I recognize, however, that I really don't have room to complain given the rate I paid...it was a FANTASTIC RATE. Originally, my boyfriend and I booked a poolside room on another site for about $150/night. But, I later learned that the booking site through Zoso had a deal for $65/night for a standard room and $77/night for a superior room. There wasn't an option for a poolside room, but we didn't think we could pass up such great rates. So, my two sisters booked two standard rooms, and my boyfriend and I cancelled our other reservation and "splurged" for a superior room.
ROOMS/CHECK-IN
We arrived around noon, and everyone was very eager to help us with our luggage (dare I say too eager?). Despite arriving at noon, we weren't given any trouble about checking in early. In fact, the front desk clerk originally could not find both of my sisters' reservations, and for our "inconvenience," he upgraded their rooms at no extra cost. (In all honesty, there wasn't any inconvenience whatsoever, and none of us balked or complained when he initially said he could not find both reservations.) We ended up on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool and mountains. My sisters' rooms were right next to each other with an adjoining door, and my room was two doors down. The views were great, and things seemed pretty quiet at night.
A note about the poolside rooms: once we saw how the hotel was laid out, we were glad we didn't keep the poolside reservation. Our intention for having such a room was to have a central place with easy access to the pool where we could all go to get snacks, drinks, etc., but it did not appear to us that the poolside rooms had any access to the pool.
THE POOL
Yes, it is small, but the temperature was great...just what we needed to cool off from the heat. Thursday was very quiet, but by Friday afternoon, it was a lot more crowded. We did not experience any DJ music, so perhaps the DJ only plays on weekends. I must admit, as much as I love kids, it was very enjoyable to not have many around. And, even with a bigger crowd on Friday, it was still quiet enough to relax and read a book or take a quick nap.
POOL SERVICE
My family and I enjoy our cocktails on vacation, and it appeared to us that the bartenders' pours were generous. The service, however, was not so great. Servers came out to the pool very infrequently, but once we actually placed an order, they were very efficient. The food was surprisingly tasty, given that it's hotel food served poolside. We especially enjoyed the vegetarian sliders, but be forewarned that they aren't traditional sliders. Instead, they were more like a full-fledged sandwiches.
CHECKOUT
Check-out for me was a breeze...no incorrect charges, no unexpected fees. My sisters were charged the incorrect rate ($130/room instead of $65), but I had printed out all of the rate information beforehand, so correcting the error was not a problem and was done without any resistence or argument. We did not encounter a huge check-out line or slow service, so we were able to get on the road by our planned 10 a.m. departure time.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
If you're looking for a centrally-located hotel with a comfortable bed and some poolside relaxation, this is your place. The hotel does show a few signs of wear-and-tear, but overall, we had a very pleasant experience and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. (After reading the other reviews, I was surprised at how friendly the staff was.) I don't know if I'd pay full price, but if I found another deal, I'd definitely stay there again.
