“It's Nice for a Quick Trip”

I booked the hotel through a website that told me the entire cost would be $136. In the end, my bill came for over $160. I don't know where the variance was and the hotel couldn't really help me because I booked through a website.

The hotel has no self-parking. The overnight cost is $18. I thought about looking for parking elsewhere, but it was just too hot to attempt this.

The hotel itself was great. The staff was kind and helpful. The location is great downtown. It's within walking distance of everything and is easy to find. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to have a good time.

“Had a nice stay”

Zoso Hotel

May 26, 2008

I stayed at Hotel Zoso a couple of years ago for a work off-site and had a nice time so I opted to take my boyfriend there for a Palm Springs holiday weekend.

We arrived Friday afternoon and the valet and front desk were courteous. We even got complimentary glasses of sangria as we went through a speedy check-in. Our bellman was especially gracious and helpful when he escorted us to our room and unloaded our bags.

The room has a very modern decor and a flat screen tv. A negative is that there aren't very many visible outlets to plug in a charger, laptop, etc. The bed was very comfy. We had a room facing the pool so be forewarned that if you're in pool view room, you're bound to hear all the noise - the floor to ceiling windows aren't very soundproof. Neither is the room door - you can hear all the chatter out in the hallways.

We were able to play a couple of complimentary games of pool at the bar but the felt tabletop is screaming to be replaced - it looks a bit drab and has a bunch of nicks in it.

We went to the pool area a couple of days. Service was mediocre and oddly, there aren't any lil' cocktail tables in between lounge chairs to set your food/drinks, etc. If you're looking for a large pool/sunning area, this is NOT the place for you. The pool is very small.

I was somewhat disappointed with the housekeeping service. We returned to our room to find that the housekeeper didn't quite get the entire job done. There were still a couple of towels laying around the room that should've been replaced; the little coffee nook wasn't straightened up; and the ice bucket wasn't emptied. It just looked like a sloppy job.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay. Nothing over the top, but also nothing similar to the horrible experiences mentioned by other reviewers. When I checked in, I had to initial by the rate and the daily valet rate, but they don't tell you anything about a $9 "resort fee" nor a $1.25 "utility fee." Resort?!?! The Hotel Zoso is a nice boutique hotel, but it is far from what I'd consider a resort. Also, the health club is still not open! If you're looking for a hotel that has an on-site gym, this is not the place to go. The valet service was very responsive with bringing our car around and they always asked if we needed directions. For what we paid, it was a very good value and the hotel is in a great location (next to the Spa Casino and one street over from downtown PS).

“Awesome Resort”

Zoso Hotel

4 of 5 stars
San DIego
May 13, 2008

My husband and I decided to celebrate our 1 year anniversary with a weekend at Hotel Zoso since we've stayed here before and loved it every time!

We arrived Saturday afternoon and had to wait a little while to get our room since check-in isn't until 3:00 but we had a drink at the pool bar until our room was ready. The bell man (Elian) offered to hold our bags for us in the back room and even offered to put some perishables in the fridge for us while we waited. When the room was ready he took us up to our room, unloaded our bags, turned on the air and even offered to get ice for us. He was the best! The room was gorgeous (as always) - very modern and nicely appointed. The only thing that would be nice is a small fridge but I understand you can request one from the front desk.

They have started having a D.J. at the pool and my husband and I agree this might not be the best idea. On Saturday we were excited to check in and get to the pool to relax but there were no chairs and the D.J. was so loud we could hear the music up in our room on the third floor with the slider shut. When we got down to the pool, there were a handful of twenty-somethings dancing and singing in the pool like it was spring break. The music from the D.J. was so loud that my husband and I couldn't hear each other talk.

The next day there were so many complaints about the loud music that the D.J. adjusted the volume and it was much more tolerable. The loud group was gone so that helped too. In our opinion, there is no need for a D.J. since there is a stereo that they play at the bar that is loud enough to hear but quiet enough so people can relax, read, take a nap...do what people go there to do.

All in all our stay was great, aside from the D.J. idea. The food is always great and we had wonderful service from the whole staff. Rod at the pool bar is great too! Very friendly.

“Good times”

Zoso Hotel

4 of 5 stars
san diego
May 5, 2008

For my wifes birthday, we went out with a couple friends. Last minute we had to cancel a room, and they met us on half the charge- not too bad.

When we check in, it must have been rush time (3 pm) and eneded up standing in line for about 45 minutes. This bothered me after a hour and a half drive became 3 with traffic, but that wasn't thier fault. It seemed there was a wedding there and maybe a convention, so the place was sold out. The front desk was great at check in and valet was there to get our car and bags. Anyone complaing about $18 for overnight valet needs to consider if they should be going on vacation, because that is a pretty minute complaint...

The room- well, that was awesome. Got a pool view VIP suite. It was awesome. The guy who helped us to our room got us ice, and was pretty cool. No complaints there.

Spent the Friday at the pool. REALLY SMALL. I'm over 6" and spent most of the time in the 4" deep pool on my knees. Probably one of the negatives, but again, comlpete minutia.

The location can not be beat for the "Palm Springs" experience. You are a seconds walk from the main strip. LG's steakhouse a block away- AWESOME.

Satuday and Sunday seemed to have a couple hiccups which would make me think twice about going back. We went to breakfast at the hotel restraunt which was worse than Denny's or IHOP. Serving was so small, I pondered about ordering another two eggs, two pieces of sausage, and thier potatoes. Eating there at 9 left me hungry by 11.

Our friends showed up at noon and we all knew that check in wasn't until 3. No issues, we put thier luggage in our room. Apparently, they are starting to have a pool DJ, which is probably to attract the 20-30'ish crowd- which was pretty cool. Too bad, they played the same songs multiple times in a 4 hour span. We decided to go get a pizza accross the street and bring back- and the "host" came over and said, "what, you don't like our pizza?" I was pretty rude back saying that we spent over a $100 bucks on drinks by noon, and I didn't feel like order a 6 inch pizza for 14 bucks when I could get a 16 inch across the street for less than 14. She rudely walked away. The pool bar tenders were good people except for this really rude lady who seemed like she was happier sitting by the radio drinking water than seeing if she could help out. Just the look on her face pissed me off. Once of those..

When our friends went to check in at 3:30, their room still wasn't ready. As it was in my name, I had to be there. Understandable. At this point, I said, I'm being charged for a room for Friday and Saturday and the room was only being used Saturday- I'm not paying the Friday night. We cancelled too late and I was told thatI would have to pay. I asked, "Why would I pay for a room for Friday (not used) and for Saturday, when our guests coudln't even get into thier room. The canceled the charge and gave our friends another room until thiers was ready- which happened at almost 7. Seems like no-one wants to leave Zoso, or they don't have any control over thier guests. Found this pretty bad! However, Jason (night manager) was great about the issue and dealt with it very quickly. Nothign but praises for him.

When it came time to check out, I had almost $300 in charges for the lobby bar. Funny, I never had one drink there. When I asked the guy who was checking us out he didn't seem to know which direction was up. I asked for the bills, tape of me there, or any proof that I ordered them. He asked if I was with the wedding- I asked what that had to do with anything and no- for my wife. He didn't seem like he had any common sense and stated that the night audit hadn't been comlpeted and there was nothing he could do. When I asked for the manager, somehow, he took off the charges. Funny how that works.

Finally, leaving, I asked the Valet to bring our car up to have ready for when we brought our luggage. I wasn't too happy when he brought out a Buick- not our Hummer. He seemed pretty confused about it. It's pretty hard to loose a Hummer in a garage..Took about 15 minutes to get the car- a half hour after I requested it.

Overall, the place is ok. Seems like they try to get every penny out of you. Our friends said that the pool bartenders didn't even ask them thier room number saying "it doesn't matter- you're with the party". Our friends said no- and again, they were told it doesn't maytter.

Seems like the only employees at this place with any pride is the management. Probably shareholders or owner-operators. I would go back and recomment to anyone looking for a good time, but I wouldn't charge anything to you room and I would keep track of all your reciepts.

“Great choice”

Zoso Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, CA
May 3, 2008

We were really nervous about staying here after reading the reviews, but this hotel turned out to be great. Outstanding location - tons of restaurants and bars around, easy walking distance to everything. The pool is small, but adequate. The rooms are spacious. The property is beautiful. We found the staff very helpful and friendly, but we didn't expect 5-star service.

If you're looking for a resort, this isn't the place. No fitness center, tennis courts, spa, or any of those frills. But it's a great place to stay for a weekend away.

Would definitely go back.
