“Low expectations, got just as expected.”

Cambridge Inn

2 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, CA
May 31, 2008

The wife and I spent Memorial weekend 2008 in Palm Springs and stayed in this dumpy little place called Cambridge Inn. Far from the other Cambridge you would normally think of.

Rated two bubbles because it was just okay. We went knowing full well not to expect much for the price we paid, and thus were not too disappointed. The carpeting was dirty so bring slippers. It doesn't seem like they clean the carpets at all since I didn't hear vacuuming nor see any vacuums on the housingkeeping carts.

At times in the late evening, it could be noisy with people chatting in and around the pool/spa area. The pool/spa was about the only nice thing there, and that's probably why people hung out there. Take notice, our bathroom door did not come with a door knob w/lock.

The pictures you see on some websites look like old photos from the past when they were new or just completed a remodeling job. They could be misleading. Check out the photos I took posted on the "Traveler Photos & Videos" link.

“They will attempt to change your rates then refuse a cancellation”

Cambridge Inn

1 of 5 stars
Irvine, CA
May 23, 2008

I had read some of the reviews on here that were positive and some negative about this hotel, and must report that my experience with the management (an Indian couple, yes) falls into the negative category.

I called yesterday to reserve rooms for our family for a day in Palm Springs, and was told that the rates of $64/night on the website were not correct, it's $99/night. I said that I was not interested in it if $99/night, only if $64. The owner said OK, we do have 3 rooms available, and we'll let you have them for $64/night, but you have to book it online, and when you are done, I'm going to fix the website and change our rates, b/c $64 is a mistake. I said fair enough, went online to book the rooms, and found the website has no place where you can select THREE rooms rather than ONE. I wrote a note on the "guest request" section stating that I was reserving three rooms.

When I called the next day (50+ hrs before arrival date/time) they (Indian female) said yes, you have only booked one room, and if you want more rooms, you will be charged a higher rate. I said the website won't let you book more than one room, and she said "yes, we have it set up that way on purpose". I then objected to higher rates, said there are other inexpensive motels available in Palm Springs, and she said "well why don't you just cancel then". I told her I'd call back shortly about that, went and reserved rooms at Vagabond Inn, and called back to cancel less than 30 min later. She said in order to cancel, I would have to do so online - it could not be done by phone. When I tried to cancel online, the computer would not allow me to do so, stating that "the cancellation period had passed". Therefore, I contacted my credit card company and will be disputing any charges these shysters attempt to put on my card.

“The Police Said it's Palm Spring's Worst Hostelry”

Cambridge Inn

May 22, 2008

Based on recent favorable reviews, we decided to give the Cambridge Inn a try. The person who checked us in was very nice, and gave us a good rate for our stay from Sunday to Thursday night. Things went well for the first few days. The room was clean and comfortable, and the pool and spa were clean.

Then the noise began. It started with a party in the pool one night that went on well after midnight, IN ADDITION to power tools being used to remodel the adjacent room to ours until midnight. The next day a full-size bus full of young men was dropped off at the motel, and they proceeded to take over the pool and spa.

At 7:30 this morning, they were yelling to eachother at the pool. We are visiting Palm Springs primarily so that my husband, who is disabled and has sleep problems, could rest and recover. The yelling woke him up and kept him from going back to sleep.

When he went to the office to complain, there was a new woman at the front desk. She said that she was the manager, and that while she could not stop them from yelling, but offered to give us a "reduced" rate for the night that was actually $20 more than what we had already signed a credit card receipt for!

When my husband explained that we had already been given a lower rate for each night of our stay than what she was "offering", she proceeded to tell him that we had been given the wrong rate and if we didn't "respect" her and accept the new higher rate, we had to leave!!!

He was very upset, and called the Palm Springs police about the situation. THe police told us sympathetically that the Cambridge Inn is the worst hostelry in Palm Springs and they are having to deal with all kinds of problems there all the time.

We have checked out rather than accept this treatment, but are now out looking for a reasonable motel room just before Memorial Day Weekend.

Do not be fooled! Although this motel looks OK at first glance, the management has no compunctions about [--] over guests and ruining vacations. Unfortunately, I will have to look a lot more critically at TripAdvisor reviews and take the bad ones really seriously after this experience!

“Recent Stay”

Cambridge Inn

5 of 5 stars
Orange,Ca
Apr 20, 2008

I have been to the Cambridge Inn in Palm Springs many times, and have found it to be a most satisfying experience.

During my last stay however, is when I really became impressed!
The many noticeable improvements both in the room and front office. The most appealing feature is the exterior on and around the property.
The friendly, professional staff was the icing on the cake, everyone seemed to go out of their way to ensure that my every whim was met. I want to commend Don and his family for welcoming me and providing one of my most enjoyable vacations ever!

Rest assure I will be singing your praises to all of my family, friends and co-workers.

Sincerely,
Surfer Joe Kahuna & The beautiful Bahama Mama
