“Family Fun”

We came down to the desert for a nice quiet little getaway and some relaxing pool time, what we found at the Caliente Tropics were Kids, Kids, Kids,. The hotel itself is very cute, clean and well appointed. The beds are very, very comfortable, and the staff is courteous and friendly. Customer service was excellent, and the small attached mexican restaurant, La Casita, was very good. However, the hotel is very family oriented. The pool (the third largest in Palm springs) managed to stay packed with screaming kids from opening to closing. For families, this is a great place, but for romance, peace and quiet, look elsewhere.. If you're a family planning on staying there, here's a tip- Take junior to bed at 10pm and let the grown up's enjoy the pool for an hour. Thanks!

“We loved this place!”

Caliente Tropics Resort

In 1964, this was probably a true resort. It has a large pool, shuffleboard, cabana's, BBQ and grass area, on-site restaurant and poolside bar. By today's luxury spa standards, it is more of a deluxe motor motel. Don't get me wrong, we loved this place. But if you are expecting a true resort feel, you might get disappointed. The staff was very nice and helpful. There was a mixed group of guests; families, couples, singles, (straight and gay) between 30-65 years old and a few toddlers and teens.

The rooms were clean and well-appointed in a tropical theme, but not fancy. Our room had been updated, had a great shower, but the carpets weren't new or sparkling. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were standard. There was no microwave in the room and only two ice machines that did run out. If you are bringing an ice chest, stop and get a block of ice for your beer/food. So many want to use the ice for this that it runs out and leaves none for the other guests' drinks.

The restaurant was very good (Mexican food). We ate at the poolside bar area and the bartenders were fabulous. It can get a little noisy late at night due to the bar on the premises, but it didn't really bother us. All-in-all, we didn't want to leave, we had a great time and would certainly go back again. In fact, we are already making plans and we just returned home today. This place is really fun if you aren't too fussy. And the best rate we found was by calling the resort direct.

“Really great hotel”

Caliente Tropics Resort

Jun 5, 2008

This hotel is a lot better than the reviews on this site suggest - so much so that I think it's been refurbished since some of the reviews were written.

Given that it's a really inexpensive place to stay, I was really impressed with what I got for my money. The rooms are nice and very clean recently decorated with decent air con. The pool (although smallish) is also really nice and there's a good area for sunbathing around the pool. The staff were friendly and helpful. It would have been nice to stay a little more centrally in Palm Springs, but apart from that, it's hard to criticuse this hotel.

“Pretty Good!!”

Caliente Tropics Resort

4 of 5 stars
San Diego, CA

After reading all of the reviews on this website I was a bit scared to come here. When I first got here, this place looked exactly like what the pictures shown on their website. I was pleased with that. We walked into the lobby to check in, which was small, but cute tiki/polynesian themed. The staff there was friendly and we were checked in within 5 minutes. We went to our room, which was on the ground "150" and when we walked in, it was nice, clean, smaller than expected, and had a bit of an odd smell. That went away when we turned the A/C on. I ordered a microwave which wasn't there and I called to inform the staff and a microwave was at my door in under 2 minutes! So perfect we were all set! We walked around and just loved the tiki theme that they had. This is what really brought the place out. They had a very nice and clean large pool, very cute cabanas and grills to cook on. Lots of chair and a couple of concrete tables. They also had a cute clover shaped jacuzzi and shuffleboard. At night they have cool tiki torches that are on fire! I thought that was awesome.

The bed was really comfy the only problem sleeping through the night was the refrigerator made a weird noise. You could also hear people coming down the stairs at times but that is only the impolite people who want to stomp and drag their bags down the stairs rudely.

We took use of their spa and had a couples massage since this was our anniversary. We met in the lobby and they took us to their spa. The couples massage wasn't in the same room but we were in the rooms next to each other. It was very nice in there. Smelled nice, beautiful music, and friendly staff. Every time I called although a man answered and he never sounded too happy or willing to help me. But anyway it was a full body Swedish massage which was amazing and my first! I loved it. They had a coupon on their site for 10% off and I used that. Just a tip, if you are doing a couples massage bring two coupons, one for each person, or the coupon can only be applied to one person.

Overall this hotel was really great and I was happy. It was a two year anniversary well spent. Also they don't have free continental breakfast but they do have free tea and coffee in the morning.

“"Tacky Tiki" Worked For Me!”

Caliente Tropics Resort

4 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, CA
May 4, 2008

For the most part I was pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Reviews I read had me doubtful, but my room was nice, clean and modern. I never had any issues with noise. And the AC worked! The pool area was nice to hang around with friends, the Mexican restaurant reasonable with large portions and the overall look of the hotel was "Tacky Tiki", which was kitschy and fun in my book.
