“Poor experience”

Comfort Inn

1 of 5 stars
Derbyshire. UK
Jul 6, 2008

Looks OK as you drive up. The photos on this site are very flattering. The room was tired and cleaning was only just adequate. Ventilation, which is really essential in Palm springs, was antiquated. Corridors and landings were absolutely unacceptable. Old stains were rotting in the heat! Floor covers were dirty and needed replacement. The pool side was not very attractive despite what the photo shows. Reception was air conditioned and the area looked much better, although breakfast was amongst the poorest that we had in the States. Poor coffee and very little choice of anything to eat, poorly displayed as if nobody really cared. Wi Fi was only available via a box that you collected from reception. They had run out of boxes!

In short this hotel is tired and run down. I would not stay there again. It also causes doubts about the real value of the Comfort Inn brand generally. Tired and run down is not good value.

“OK to stay, nothing to rave about”

Comfort Inn

3 of 5 stars
Washington, DC
Jun 21, 2008

I feel compelled to write a (non enthusiastic) review of this property, because other tripadvisor reviews almost scared me and friend away from a reasonably priced stay during Palm Spring's Film Festival. (See my "how bad is it?" post in the forums.)

The location is good, includes free parking and a bare bones mostly continental breakfast. There is a pool, hot tub (not functioning as it was missing a knob), little laundry and little weight room. Amenities are somewhat bare bones, nothing is fancy or new. The room was of decent size with a desk height fridge (always convenient.)

The place was packed while I was there, they were hosting a bus tour of candians and an elderhostel group for the film festival.

If you have a good price, I think it's probably fine to stay here, but only if the convenience/price make it a good choice. However, you should have very modest expectations. If you have anything that requires attention (i.e. call in to front desk or maintenance), you will likely be frustrated. If you expect upscale modern furnishings, you will be disappointed.

However, I found it a convenient low price bedroom for 4 nights while I enjoyed the Film Festival and would stay here again if necessary.

“Lazy and Incompetent Staff”

Comfort Inn

1 of 5 stars
Pittsburgh, PA
Dec 3, 2007

We stayed there for 5 nights during a field hockey tournament. At first I thought our king suite was really nice and couldn't understand why all the parents from last year were complaining. I quickly though began to understand when our toilet became plugged the second evening. A maintenance man, who hardly spoke any English, came to our room with a plunger. He could not fix it. I called the front desk the next morning and told them to go buy a snake and drano. They promised to fix it. It was not fixed and the night person at the desk, who again was not a native speaker, simply looked at me like I was stupid. The next morning I went down to confront the front desk and again was met by another non native speaker, who said they would fix it. Finally, the day before I left, I was offered another room which was too late in my opinion. I received one day off the price, but not any more. I had to use other people's toilets the entire time. Please do not go to this hotel. It had the worst customer care I ever experienced.

“Comfort Inn Palm Springs is not well maintained and is a poor value.”

Comfort Inn

1 of 5 stars
Sunny California
Oct 4, 2007

The Palm Springs Comfort Inn is not a resort hotel. It is a below standard roadside type motel. The outside of the building, hallways and elevator are in dire need of cleaning, painting, a remodel and basic maintenance.

The room we had is No. 213 across from the elevator, which is so small, barely 2 people and luggage can fit. The sink stopper was broke, the bathroom tile is cracked at edges, bathtub is yellowish and stained, and alarm clock does not work. The furnishings are mediocre. The room was okay clean wise--but was not bright and clean feeling.

The hallways are so gross with old carpet that you would never want to walk on barefoot---just groos.

The hotel rooms are now non-smoking. But instead of having smoking rooms, there are people milling around at various designated smoking areas--one being right by the elevator and laundry. I smelled second hand smoke every time I opened my door or walked around. These people are relentless with the smoking and since they aren't doing it inside the rooms, they are sitting at the entryways or leaning on the pool fence smoking it all up. This is really lousy for non-smokers. The pool area is just another word for ashtray at this hotel.

The air conditioner in the room is so loud you can hardly sleep. The air equipment outside is so loud you cannot hear the person talk next to you when walking by.

The lobby is really nice and inviting, the drive-up entry is spacious and there are a few Palm Trees around the hotel. And the Comfort Inn sign looks nice. However, all of this is just a bait and switch. The inside of the rooms and the building is a real turn off.

The fitness room did not have a treadmill. There is a stair stepper, stationary bike and weight machine. The room has large windows so everyone walking by can easily watch you work out. NO PRIVACY AT ALL. And the windows look out on the gross-out hallway.

There are 2 washers and dryers which I used to do laundry. They were not maintained, but I used them b/c I needed some clean clothes otherwise I would have passed if I had more options. I didn't feel like searching for a laundrymat. It is just clear that no one cleans this place.

Palm Springs has always been known for style, but you would not know this by the Comfort Inn.

Slight positive is that you can walk to restaurants, shops and the Spa Casino from the motel.

This motel would not be suitable for several day stays--just too depressing to be in for more than a day.

I will also add that a large busload of European visitors arrived at 9:00 p.m. and they received no assistance whatsoever from the hotel which only had 1 staff person on at the front desk. I waited 10 minutes to check in earlier b/c she was so backed up with phone calls and people checking in before me.

The bus tour folks were given a map that is very unclear and left to figure out how to get to their rooms on their own. Their English was limited, and as each one passed me while I did my laundry they looked to me as I might help them. I did my best to get several elderly people to their rooms and to the elevators. I felt sorry for them that the big group did not merit any service at all. By the way, the brochure at the hotel describing its 'amentities' states the following: "Freshly baked cookies and coffee/tea Welcome Reception for all of our Motorcoach Tours." This was not true at all. There were no cookies and coffee for the large group I saw arrive. They were thrown out like cattle to find their own way. What a scam to state on your brochure that you will provide a 'welcome reception' and then have no staff and nothing to offer but confusion to these motorcoach guests!

I was highly disappointed by my stay here and I suggest you stay away from this place.

Comfort Inn should remove this from their chain as it is below their stated standards.
The room rate was $80.

“Disappointing”

Comfort Inn

2 of 5 stars
Manchester
Jun 23, 2007

Stayed here 24th & 25th May 2007 very disappointing, room was very smelly and a little dated and they did not have a bar. On the upside the pool was ok and very quiet and it was in a great location for the centre of Palm Springs and they also provided a buffet breakfast which was quite good.
