What is not completely clear on first impressions of this feat of engineering is that the cable cars sway. Not a huge amount, but enough to send someone who's scared of heights reeling when you're suspended hundreds of feet above sheer cliff faces. That said the views are spectacular. When you get about three quarters of the way up the mountain you get a real sense of just how high you are, above the level of clouds, and a completely different ecosystem from the one you left behind on the desert floor. The trails at the top of the mountain are beautiful although the photos I've enclosed really don't do it justice. The paths are steep in places so I recommend taking it easy as at 8,000 feet above sea level the air is a lot thinner. The tram is an excellent way to spend a day if you're visiting Palm Springs.

The view from the tramway is really great, and the 360 degree rotation allows you to see the whole view wherever you stand (if the rotation is too much to cope with then the middle part of the car is static).

The real treat is the San Jacinto national park accessible from the top of the tramway. There are some lovely walks and scenery here. It is a fantastic place to go when it is unbearably hot in Palm Springs as the temperature is around 30 degrees F cooler than in the valley (so take appropriate clothing). On the lower floor there is an informative video about the building of the cable car.

Do not miss this if you are visiting Palm Springs.

Being from Wisconsin, we were kind of new to the whole idea of mountians . We decided to take the tramway to the top of Mount San Jacinto. The ride was spectacular (and a little scary). The views were amazing and I truly felt safe in the tram. Once at the top, you can sled, go hiking, eat at the restaurant or go sight seeing. I highly recommend this attraction. *NOTE: For rides after 3pm, you get $3.00 off your ticket*

I went up the tramway in february and it was -6 degrees celcius and snowing. It was amazing to see the dry desert sands from up there through a blizard.

Definately worth a trip, I am going back in November for some more photography.
