“Not bad... some issues”

Days Inn Hollywood/Universal Studios

2 of 5 stars
Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Apr 25, 2008

The parking was gated underground, which for the neighbourhood was good. The room we had overlooked the pool, and it was clean, although small. The bathroom was in severe need of a remodel. It didn't look nice, shower wasn't great and toilet ran a long time. We went to grab a bite to eat and came back and our key wouldn't work. Staff had to call maintenance for us, and it took forever to get back in. This happened three times during our stay, but the other two we were able to try again and again and make it work ourselves. (very inconvenient) The steps near the outdoor pool had a pipe sticking out and I tripped and fell. Very dangerous. It could easily be fixed but it wasn't while we were there. (it's obvious) There is an In and Out Burger and a great shoe outlet store right nearby. You can walk to Hollywood Walk of Fame and we did that. (wouldn't recommend doing at night) The hotel had signs up about an ant problem, but we didn't see any. It wasn't too bad, I would stay there again for a night or two, but not overly impressed, especially for what we paid!!

Worst experience at a hotel EVER. We have stayed at many different hotels in the Hollywood area from the Roosevelt to the Saharan and the Days Inn on Sunset was by far the worst. We checked in on an extremly hot day, and found out that our rooms Air Conditioning was broken and they were postive that it worked even though there was a standing fan in the room. i have never had a standing fan in any hotel room I have ever stayed at. We got down graded to another room with a queen bed ( we had made reservations for a King) and no fridge. At that time I was just hot and wanted to take a nap in a cool room before I headed out to a show I was atteneding so I didnt complain. About 10 minutes into my nap I heard a saw and someone hammering in the room right next to us. Apparently they were do renvovations on the suite right next door to our room. I called down and told the front desk that this was unexceptable and that I should be entitled to a discount or something because of one the down graded room and because their "PROMISE AS SURE AS THE SUN" States

“Great Choice!”

Days Inn Hollywood/Universal Studios

4 of 5 stars
Guatemala City, Guatemala
Mar 25, 2008

I recently stayed in this hotel for five nights with my family. We were on vacation in southern California and enjoyed the hole experience a lot. This hotel was no exception.
The best things abouth this hotel were the rates, the location, and the underground parking. The neighbourhood is nice and felt safe enough to walk. It's a few minutes' walk away from attractions in Hollywood. In Sunset boulevard there's a lot to do too, like restaurants, night clubs (for those interested) and shops. Other great attractions are close by, like Universal Studios, Griffith Park, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and downtown.
The hotel looked nice and was very clean; the staff friendly, helpful and efficient. The room with two double beds could have been a little bigger, but was ok. By the way, I personally had no trouble with noises due to the "thin" walls. Everything worked well. The lobby is nice, has a computer with internet access and printer. The breakfast area is tiny, but the food offered was good enough, although without a lot of variety. The pool I never used, but looked nice. In summary, I would definetely return to this hotel.

“This has got to be a joke...”

I booked this hotel after reading these reviews and I have to say, my experience wasn't even close to anything written here. I generally stay in 2 and 3 star hotels, so my expectations are not that high. But this has got to be the worst hotel I've ever been in. While the location can't be beat, I would recommend you stay somewhere a little further away for cheaper and use the money you've saved to pay for parking or taxis. You'll have a better experience, trust me. First of all, the place is aged and falling apart. The lobby and outside appear to be in order, but the room itself was ridiculous. Peeling and worn wallpaper, huge hole in the carpet, large holes where pictures have been moved/removed, discolored ceiling, and a terrible smell are what greeted me when I walked in the door. Then, while trying to use the shower, my husband nearly scalded himself because the temperature control takes a full 2 minutes to respond to any changes. Now, I'm a pretty intelligent person, but I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out how to use a shower. The drain in the shower was also slow and I was disgusted at what I had to stand in. The a/c originally appeared to not be working and when I brought this up to Juliana, a member of the front desk staff, she snottily asked me, "Did you press the mode button?" Like I worked for Carrier and automatically knew that was what you were supposed to do, especially since there were absolutely no instructions and the a/c in every other hotel in the world has an on/off button and temperature controls and that's all you need to know. This girl had someone come to my room to get the a/c to work, but it took him 10 minutes to figure it out. So if it takes a member of the staff 10 minutes to get it to work, why I should I be expected to do it at all? Then, when I brought up the matter of the shower temperature, she didn't actually address me but turned to the other girl at the desk and said, "That shower works, right?" I couldn't believe it...this girl actually just called me a liar. I replied that no, it wasn't, because I just told her it wasn't, and the matter regarding the shower was dropped and never taken care of. I brought my grievances up to a different front desk clerk the next morning and asked to speak to the manager, but apparently he doesn't feel it necessary to work on weekends, when hotels are the busiest. As a matter of fact, there wasn't a maintenance person working either which leads me to believe that the management at this hotel is amateurish at best. I have reported my experiences with Days Inn and have put a call in to the hotel manager but have not received a response as of this time. I would recommend you take your business elsewhere...you'll thank me later.
