“Can't Beat the Convenience”

Airporter Inn

4 of 5 stars
Los Angeles, California
May 30, 2007

If you're a businessman visiting the Imperial Valley this place is the bomb. It's literally a 2 minute walk from the door of the airport. You can arrive late in the evening by air, and be in your room literally 8 minutes after stepping off the plane. How cool is that?

The rental car desk at the airport isn't open all the time so if you arrive late it may be closed. You can then pick up your car the next morning, or just take taxis depending on where you are going (El Centro).

The rooms are fine, nothing special, but more than adequate for one night. The hotel is in the process of being remodeled so better things might be on the horizon. I ate breakfast in the restaurant and the food was fine.

The Imperial Valley really isn't much of a tourist destination for anyone but for someone like me who flies there for one night on business you can't beat the convenience of this hotel.

“Okay room, inept service”

The hotel looks nice judging from the interior and the lobby, but that is deceptive. The room we received seemed to be clean, except for the chairs having strange stains on them and the bathroom being somewhat cheap in appearance. There were televisions in both the lobby and the lunchroom, but for some reason, they were never on.

When we checked in, the girl at the desk seemed to be a trainee who had been abandoned by her supervisor. She didn't seem to know where the reservations were and was about to charge me twice for the same room until I showed her how to find it.

The free complimentary breakfast consisted of your choice of cereal, a piece of fruit, coffee and a non-brand, plastic pastry. There is also a very strange lunchroom attendant who likes to stand at one of the tables as she eyeballs you to make sure that you don't take too much food and to make sure you don't make a mess. She gave off a very weird vibe, what with her staring and all.

At least they had free wireless internet. The room was merely okay. You won't necessarily enjoy your stay, but it is adequate if you just want a room, a shower, and plan to leave early the next day. All in all, it was just strange to be there.
