My family and I just returned from a one week stay at the Victorian house. Upon arrival, everyone was very nice and welcoming. The rooms were very nice and clean. Our maid was great. We didn't have any problems with the rooms, except for cold showers, but you get used to that and it feels kind of nice after being in the hot sun all day.
The Victorian House and the Sosua Bay Hotel share the same facilities. I didn't see this as a problem at all, they functioned really well together. The food in the buffet was good with a lot of different options. The hotel has a selection of other restaurants to eat at. We went to the Mexican and Italian restaurants, which I would highly suggest! The food in these two restaurants was really good! If you do plan on going to some of the restaurants, make sure you make reservations early in your trip. We tried making reservations a couple of times for the day of, but they were completely booked. So plan on making your reservations at least a day in advance. Some of the restaurants do have a dress code, but it is nice to get alittle bit dressed up for dinner. At night time, most people were alittle dressed up which was nice.
The pool and beach facilites were very nice. We did have to claim chairs early in the morning. During the week it was not hard to find chairs, but during the weekend it was alittle bit more difficult because there were more people there.
The staff of people that worked at the resort were really nice, including waiters, waitresses, bartenders, maids, activities people, dancers, and dive staff. We didn't have a bad experience with anyone. During the day they have a few activities to participate in. There night program is really fun. My family and I would eat dinner and then sit down by the pool and play cards every night. They had a live band, dancing, a kids program, and a show every night. The live band was really nice and then the shows were pretty good. Some shows better than others, but they are worth going too.
We walked the beach almost everyday. The beach is very nice. Straight down from the resort is a small beach, then you have to cross a concrete platform to get to the rest of the beach. Be careful, its alittle rocky, but a very beautiful beach. We were really not bothered by vendors at all along the beach. There were alot of shops just behind the beach, where of course if you walk back there you will be hounded by multiple people working in their shops, but that is how they all do it, so if you don't like that just stay away from them and they won't bother you.
The resort itself does have a lot of stairs because it was built on a hill, but seriously, after laying by the pool all day, it was nice to have alittle exercise.
One very important TIP: There is a group of people on the resort that want to get you to buy a vacation package. These people are part of the Lifestyle vacation. They hang out on the resort and try to get people to buy their vacation package instead of being an RCI member. My advice... just say a polite No, to begin with, unless you want to by a lifestyle vacation membership for $50,000, then go for it. If you even seem the slightest bit interested they will want to talk to you and then take you to their lifestyle resort in Puerto Plata. This resort is very nice, but its not worth it unless you are willing to shell out alot of money. So I would suggest not even getting involved with them.
My family and I all enjoyed our stay at the Victorian house. It was a great experience and I'm sure we would all jump at the chance to go back.
