“wonderful litte hotel”

Casa Blanca Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Boston, Mass
Mar 2, 2008

We loved this place. It's not for luxury lovers, but if you're looking for a cozy little hotel with friendly owners, this is the place. It's about a 5 minute walk from the main strip -- nice and quiet, but easy to get to by foot. (We felt perfectly safe walking around, day or night.) The Canadian owners, William and Dorothy, do everything they can to make you feel welcome, and have plenty of helpful local knowledge. Their attitude transmits to the guests, and we found this one of the friendliest all-round places we've been to in a while. It's an especially good place for kids. The owners bought the hotel only a year ago, and are making some badly-needed repairs, such as fixing torn screens, but if you like a low-key place where you'll feel entirely at home, this is it. We would definitely go back.

“Perfectly Simple”

Casa Blanca Hotel

The Casa Blanca is a simple, clean, friendly place to stay. We spent two weeks there and wouldn't have wanted to be staying anywhere else. There is some traffic noise, and it is a bit of a walk to the center of Cabarete, but it's worth it for the price and the atmosphere. If you're not looking for anything fancy, and would rather spend your money doing fun stuff and eating good food, then this is the place for you.

We spent the first week in Room 7 and then were moved, due to availability, to Suite F. The suites are much more spacious, quieter, and generally nicer than most of the rooms. So if you can afford the extra few dollars a night I'd recommend renting a suite.

The owners are very friendly and helpful, and Rita and Juan keep the place spotless. They smile a lot too. The best breakfasts in Cabarete are just downstairs at Claro.

“An affordable backpacker's hostal on the outskirts of Cabarete”

Casa Blanca Hotel

Like most of the guests at Casablance I look for the cheapest place to stay, and Casablance is among the cheapest in the Cabarete vecinity. There are tradeoffs of course. Being on the outskirts of town you won't be disturbed by the nightlife of Cabarete, but being right on the highway you have to get used to a bit of traffic noise from the trucks and motorcycles. You can't see the ocean from the hotel, but If you walk through the Magnifico condo development and past a cemetery you get to an expansive and mostly unoccupied beach east of Cabarete bay. Great for quiet walks, but you can't swim in the water on this beach because of currents, rocks and a rough shore break. On the other hand, the hotel has a nice pool to cool off in. The rooms are decent for the price, which is what you are paying for, rather than location.

Management Response

We do set aside a couple of cheaper rooms for the backpack type of traveler on a budget. But we also offer very nice Studios for couples and families at $45-$55 per night. The reef: families with kids use the shallow trapped water there for toddlers. About 150 meters to the east there is a good sandy beach with larger waves for folks who like boogie boarding. Just to the west there is the more sheltered and quiet main Cabarete Beach. The Hotel is set back far enough and shaped so that most of the rooms and studios are not exposed to road noise. Rooms 7 and 8 have a nice ocean view. The abandoned building is in fact across from the entrance to the excellent Magnifico luxury complex. Regulars to Cabarete will appreciate that this whole town is in transition.

“Great Find!”

Casa Blanca Hotel

I would highly recommend Hotel Casa Blanca if you are looking for an affordable, no-frills hotel that is close to the beach, has a nice pool, and has a great restaurant for brunch. Our room overlooked the pool, was very clean, and the breeze at night made sleeping very comfortable. The owners and staff were very helpful and accommodating. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the beach restaurants and bars. The walk back to the hotel at night can be a bit dark, but if you stay alert there is no reason to feel unsafe. Comparable hotels in the area seemed a bit run down and seedy so we felt very lucky we chose Hotel Casa Blanca over them. Claro, the restaurant at the hotel, is opened until about 2 p.m. and has a great brunch. The banana pancakes and fresh squeezed juice were delicious! We can't wait to return to Cabarete and we will definitely choose Hotel Casa Blanca again!

“my favorite hotel during my vaca”

Casa Blanca Hotel

Jan 26, 2008

Pros: Great location- a decent walk to the center of the beach town, on the main street, but far enough where its not so noisy. Located right next to Janets Supermarket and a small store, so I saved some money on snacks and drinks (instead of paying on the beach prices). Very clean place, very friendly staff. The current owners are Canadian and very friendly and helpful. I came to Cabarete because the town isn't as seedy as other places in DR ive been to, so I felt safe here and the other visitors were fellow vacationers. Beautiful and clean pool in the back, although I didnt swim in it. Cute layout. Quiet at night so it was easy to fall asleep.. Family like atmosphere; felt like i was staying at a relatives house. I had to use a share bathroom, but it was clean and I ended up being the only one using it I think. Downstairs during the daytime is a cafe Claro. Great food and the cute waitress is really friendly and nice. House is locked at night, another safety plus. And on top of it all, the price is right. I paid $20 a night for the smallest room, as all I really needed was a clean, safe bed to sleep in as i was at the beach all day. Cabarate, btw, is an awesome beach town with a very nice, large, clean beach, lots of bars and restaraunts with great food, reasonably priced, and the beach stretches as far as youre willing to walk (i went out venturing one day).

Cons: At the night the street is dark, but it was still easy to catch a moto to the center of town. I had a little trouble with the main house lock one night.. had to jiggle the key around alot. Not many Cons I can think of.

Overall: My favorite hotel during my whole stay (stayed in 4 different hotels). A nice balance between price, safety, comfort, and cleanliness. Im coming back to DR in a few months and Im definitely going to stay here again. Highly recommended!
