The Kite Lounge

I stayed at the Kite Lounge for just under two weeks. It could not have been more awesome. Even though I caught the November doldrums, the Lounge was mad chill. You instantly become part of the family, and are encompassed by an atmosphere of fun, relaxation and water. They not only care about the student, but when the wind is down they directed me to all the best surf spots, tours, and best wakeboarding. They also instructed me in the ways of staying safe when going out in town and how to avoid many tourist pitfalls, pickpockets, and high prices. They can understand nearly any language you throw at them, Spanish, English, Finnish, German, French, etc. And they are all exceptional kiters, as well as certified. From someone who has been all over the world this place is one of a kind. With the upgrades they plan on making in the next month I can't wait to see the finished product. Kite Lounge is a winner.

Kite lounge!!!
Something to like!!!
I had been staying in Cabarete fore a few days, and wasn't that happy with the location on the place i lived... when i took a strole at kite beach, out looking at all the moves at the water..
i came over kite lounge!!
A fantastic little house with pool and a school located just on the best beach in Cabarete...
Not in the middle of everything and not to far away from it..
And the best part have to be the location..
u have to look long and hard, (something that probably wont work at all anyway..) to find a cheap place at kite beach..

Its not a big house so u get to know all the people that stayed there..
And fore me that was traveling alone that was perfect..
I have met some amazing people that i will fore sure keep in touch with.
That includes the crazy ones that is tho be seen there all year around!
Vlad thats the man of the house, hooked me up to buy a moto... that is a perfect thing to have if ur staying fore more than 3 weeks, then cursing around in Cabarete
Not bad...

A few of the people that was there had been there for a long time.. That was`nt the original plan.... ha..
So when they were tired of going out eating..
Why not a bbq or cook something up in the kitchen..

The rooms a perfect as they can be on a place like that.. Clean and simple, its not a 5 star hotel and not a 1 star ether...
No a/c but the fans do the job good.. and i didn't have to get a fricking cold out of it..
Yahey!!
I had a fantastic room where i just puled away the kurtens in the morning, and there it was... an amazing wiev, palm trees and the ocean...
I can even go as far and say the big mama maid was lovebl...
And guess what she even didn't steal...
Ha, something that is not that strange in a 3 world country..
(was not like that at my first hotel....)
The main room they had a TV with some video games and a dvd..
It is the tropics so it will rain some times.. and its nice to hang out and have some fun people, an fun stuff around!!

i had been learning my self how to kite..
So then i took just a few lessons with Sven.. and there i go...
Down winders to enquentro with the guy's in the house...
Yeah it was a good stay.. And i know for sure i will go back there..
Just saving up some money so i can leave the good life in the Caribbean longer..

peeps... its reckomended

“Hard to leave”

The Kite Lounge

Aug 28, 2007

I came to Cabarete for three weeks in late May 2007. I was staying somewhere else when I arrived but was so impressed with the friendly crew at The Kite Lounge that I became one of their first house guests. So now three weeks has turned into three months and I still am finding it hard to leave. The beauty of The Kite Lounge both as a guest house and a kiting school is that Robbie, Vlad, Sven and Werner really make you feel comfortable. The school and the house have such a familiar atmosphere that you feel like you are hanging out with your family and friends from the moment you arrive.

I took some refresher lessons when I first got here. I know what the other schools offer and I think that The Kite Lounge have to right idea with their package deal. The instruction given by Sven and his team was first class, and having someone to supervise you whilst you practice during your early days is a smart idea. Svens knowledge of local weather conditions is rarely wrong, I have personally seen him tell students that the wind will not be suitable for kiting when other schools are wasting their students instructor hours in unsuitable conditions.

The guest house had a few teething problems early on, as can be expected when starting from scratch. These problems were sorted out without much disruption to the guests. The accommodation is basic but I can attest to how good it is to have the waves lulling you to sleep after a hard day or big night. You cant beat waking up on the beach and being able to grab your kite at a moments notice or being able to have a mid-day snooze if the wind has dropped of. There have been several other house guests over the months, some staying for just one week other for a few months like myself. As I said earlier there is a real family and friends atmosphere in the house, with most of the people that have stayed staying on contact via email.

There is the occasional house dinner, party or poker night, generally at the bidding of the guests. Vlads knowledge of local restaurants and nightlife will steer you in the right direction no matter what your tastes. The Snack Shack provides good food and drinks from about lunch onwards. If you want to stay and play after kiting Alex makes a very good vodka cranberry.

I thoroughly recommend the Kite Lounge as both a guest house and kite school. I will be back.

The best value on the beach and right in the middle of the kite beach...with a great crew of chill fun people. Most rooms have oceans views, gear storage facilities on the premises and really nice instructors that care more about seeing you get up than how many hours you've used in your package. The only way you won't be happy is if you were looking for a jacuzzi in your bathroom.

Just got back from my vacation in Cabarete. I came to learn how to kiteboard and enjoy my time off. I heard about Cabarete thru magazines and forums so I decided to check it out. I found the kite lounge on another forum and booked thru email. I was pleasantly surprised with how quick they respond to email but after talking with the guys who run it I now know they spend too much time behind their computers haha.

About the rooms they were clean, simple and they had wireless internet which is about all I need. There was no A/C but that was fine since I was on a budget and got a week of accommodations for only $200 and I had a ocean view and my room was 100ft from the waters edge. They also had a small pool which was kind of the gathering spot every afternoon for making nite time plans and drinking beer. Needless to say that was pretty sweet.

As far as the lessons go I throughly enjoyed learning to kite and with Sven and the teams chill attitude I was able to learn at my pace and even got up and riding by the end. Thanks Guys!

Hope to visit again soon and continue my kiteboarding career.

Cheers to Cabarete and the staff at the Kite Lounge,
Frank
