we are a family of 4 from the Uk with a 16yr old and 11yr old in our party.
We had read the reviews about the Velero Beach and Cabarete and they were so good we couldnt wait for our holiday. It was better than we expected. The people, accommodation, food, beaches, were all excellent. The hotel was clean, in a beautiful position and we cant wait to go back

If you are looking to stay somewhere that offers beautiful views, strong cocktails, with the right blend of peace and quiet just a short walk to nightlife, book your trip at Velero. The staff are warm and accomodating, the facilities immaculate, and the food is simple but tasty. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. Plenty of cable channels, strong AC, and comfy beds. The double headed showers our bathroom were awesome!

I am not one for all inclusives but I like to stay somewhere that has all of the conveniences that most resorts offer. Velero is the perfect balance of a top-notch hotel without feeling like you are aboard the cattle car buffet with sub-par cuisine that you find at some of the all inclusive resorts (plus they don't make you wear some awful neon bracelet like the AIs do). Breakfast is included everyday at the hotel and is quite good and you can chose from 10 different options).

The beds on the beach are amazing -- I would go back in a second!

I stay in many different hotels (good and bad ones) around the world for business, and for pleasure and so I feel I can give a good unbiased review.
My girlfriend and I checked into the Velero Beach at the beginning of April 07.
We found the room (junior suite) quite large, a bit basic, but full of character. We had a great view of the sea/beach (as did all the rooms).
The hotel has only one small beach bar/restaurant, which at times seemed to struggle to cope with all the guests at busy times eg. breakfast. We were of course on holiday, so found the small delays quite OK. (sitting in the sun etc.) The food was very tasty and well presented and good value for a 4 star hotel. The staff were very friendly, and so we ate here 4 out of 7 times.
Come to think of it, all of the staff from the hotel were very nice, and greeted us with a 'hello' whenever we saw them.
The hotel has a great position on the beach (about 5 mins walk along the beach from the main bars of Cabarete) On the windy days, the sea fills up with Kite surfers and Wind surfers providing great entertainment to us.
There are a few local people who try and sell you things while you are relaxing on the beach (typical of any poor country), but they are very friendly, and in any case are normally kept in check by the hotel security guards.
The place grew on me throughout the week that I stayed there, and overall, I would recommend this hotel. It is not what i would call a luxurious hotel, but it is very very nice, quiet, relaxing, friendly, and better than most of the other 4 stars that we saw.

Oh and I almost forgot, they've got four poster beds overlooking the beach.... I spent many hours in those!!
