Hotel Alegria

My husband and I are over 55 and we were looking for a small hotel where we can bring our dog. It was our first trip in the Republic Dominican and the owners where always there to help us and answer our questions. It was pleasant to be able to talk directly with them at any time of the day and not to employees who do not care. We recommend this hotel to any body of any ages. The new restaurant is also very friendly and personnal.
We met very interresting people at night from 20 to 75 years old.

“Great place on the beach!”

Stayed at Hotel Alegria for five days in late December. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. The location is great and everything you need is in walking distance. The rooms are exactly what you see in their photos. They are comfotable, clean and each has a safe (I was in room 33 which has an ocean view and AC). The resturant is very good and the prices are better than many of the places on the beach. I would reccomend this for couples traveling on a budget or singles looking for a clean/safe place to hang their hats at night. Make sure to ask the owners for the "Debriefing" on nightlife, day trips etc.

“Special people”

Hotel Alegria

Jan 27, 2008

The owners and the staff of this hotel are all special people who will allow you to feel personally cared for. Even the hotel dog greets you when you arrive! This is just the right place for a single traveler. Other guests are friendly, good people who you will enjoy getting to know in a comfortable, cozy environment. Get an ocean view room, spend some time on the rooftop deck, and relax. Down the beach a few steps are the clubs. This is a quiet hotel. If your main desire is to be on vacation with genuine people who have your best interest at heart and you are easy going, stay at Hotel Alegria. My best to Peter and Sylvia, the owners, and their staff who took excellent care of me, a single female traveler with no worries.

“Excellent location”

Hotel Alegria

Jan 15, 2008

For the cheap/affordable price that I paid, I could not have been more satisfied. One of the aspects of this hotel that I liked the most was the feeling of complete relaxation. The owners of the hotel met every demand/need that we had. With the hotel being literally right on the beach, this satisfied my need to frequently lay by the beach. The setting of the restaurant and the quality of the food was absolutely perfect for a relaxing meal. Another aspect of this hotel that I was pleased with was the selection/availability of American cable (the channels were also provided in Spanish). All-in-all, Hotel Alegria will most likely be where I stay when I go back to the DR.

“Great value and location”

Hotel Alegria

5 of 5 stars
Washington D.C.
Jan 14, 2008

I'm 23 from Washington D.C. and a buddy and I stayed at Hotel Alegria from Dec. 26 to Jan. 3rd 2008 for New Year's Eve--and really enjoyed it.

The hotel is family owned/operated and the staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. Approachable people who made sure we had everything we needed.

The room was comfortable -- not too hot -- and came with a ceiling and floor fan. The room we booked had a fridge and stove, and a safe to keep our valuables. We ate at the restaurant at the hotel two or three times including dinner on New Year's Eve before going out, and each time the food was terrific and very reasonable. There’s also a bar that sells Presidente's (the local beer) for cheaper than any of the other bars we went to (about $2.00 a beer compared to $3.00 - $3.50)

The location was great. There is a private path from the hotel to the beach and it's no more than a five minute walk down the beach to the bars---which were also great. It's right near a supermarket where we bought some snacks and bottled water, and got a great exchange rate on our money. There was a casino within walking distance that we went to---and I won $100. Count it! The hotel owners also told us of a near by beach where we went snorkeling.

If I go back to the Dominican I would definitely stay here again.
