I feel rather bad that I am finally writing a review of this hotel after 4 years! We; my husband, our 12 year old son, and myself had an amazing time! There was always something going on - the entertainment staff managed to keep our pre-teen preoccupied much of the time it was almost like my husband and I were on a second honeymoon -AAAHHHHH!!!

I have this 'wonkie' condition that causes my entire body to create havoc whenever I hit humidity (sure it couldn't have anything to do with going from -42c to +32c in the matter of a few hours combined with travelling there within a confined space where 100+ people are constantly breathing recycled air). The purpose for this little tid bit of information is to inlighten other travellers that the medical staff which the hotel has on 'contract' was awesome! With her help and support I was able to overcome what would have completely ruined and cut short my holiday and managed to salvage the second week of our stay and wishing it could have been two weeks longer!!!

We became 'friends' with the employees, in as much as they were permitted to associate with the guests (for the most part it appeared to us that the staff were to make themselves 'seen and not heard' and not to linger around where the guests were. If you want to make their day, say Hi! to the behind the scenes workers, the 'little people' that work so very long and hard to make the resort the clean and safe place that it is! I managed to bring an extra suitcase with me of things that our children had long since grown out of, toys, books, games, and some samples of assorted personal hygiene products from the business that I operate from home and I passed these items out freely to the 'little people' - the staff who seldome get the recognition/appreciation to which they deserve and you would have thought it was the 6 numbers from the lottery!!!! It was a sincere appreciation too, not one in which is drilled in to them by the hours of training which they have to go through in order to work for the company but a genuine thanks for noticing and caring about how hard I work to make your stay here enjoyable!

We had such an awesome experience that I even purchased one of the CDs which the entertainment staff were selling the day we were leaving! The CD was an excellent momento of our stay featuring 90% of the songs which we heard around the pool during the shows and during the day! Unfortunately I let a fellow staff member borrow it at my work and .......after several weeks she finally confessed that she somehow damaged it and threw it away! GGGGGGRRRRRRR

If you happen(ed) to purchase the CD or have an idea of how I could get a copy of one, I would really appreciate getting a copy of it, again! (Don't worry this time she will not get her hands on it!!) It was the only souvenir I purchased on this vacation for myself!

If you're thinking of going to the D.R. don't hesitate, especially if you are going to the North coast (Puerto Plata), Cabarete is a nice little town within walking distance of Punta Goleta, there is a free shuttle to Sousa, and a hundred of other 'little' other reasons I could give you to go and discover the D.R. and why it is still so dear to us.

I have been to many resorts...This one, Punta Goleta, being one of my favorites!
Its only a 3 star, but it was better then some of the five star resorts I had previously stayed at.
The food was different everyday and I personally found it quite tasteful (compare to other resort foods). The service offered was amazing. Staff treated us like friends and helped us out in which ever way they could! I didnt feel as if I was speaking to computerized Customer Service Agents, but to real people with real smiles, who could always put a smile on my face no matter what situation!
The only thing that bothered me was that the beach was accross the street, going over a bridge, but it wasnt enough to say that it was a bad trip.
If you are the type of traveller, like myself, who enjoys experiencing the "CULTURE" of the country and not so much the mint on a pillow every morning, I highly recommend this resort. I would, and will, definately go back!

My husband and my 2 children arrived july 15th 2005. The hotels grounds were nice but when we got to the room that was another story. Musty, dirty water leaking near the bathroom and full of ants.
We tried to change rooms but the hotel was full. The food was blah the same thing on the buffet. The a la carte resturant wasn't to bad but served the same meal all week long. the long walk to the beach was annoying. The beach small but pretty. They say motorized sports are included along with horseback riding. NOT!!!! We found that out after we went riding and had to pay for it. The beach vendors are aggresive we almost didn't want to go to the beach because of this. This hotel is in bad need of repairs. Would I go to this hotel again. I would have to say no.

This was the second visit to this hotel and we can honestly say we have a great time,. a holiday is what you make it. we have been to 5 star Maldives, Cuba etc. but we never have as much fun as we have with the entertainment staff at this hotel.

Yes the rooms are dated but they are kept clean, the staff are very helpfull, the food is simple and theirs plenty of it, the grounds are superb allways clean and tidy. We treat the hotel as a base, a place to eat & sleep between trips around the beautiful country. We are sorry to hear the a hotel is closed for the moment but as soon as its back in the brochures we will be back. If the hotel staff read this see you again in the near future.
