I had reservations for this hotel. I arrived after 24 hours of traveling from Arkansas. They had my reservation, but they only take cash and wanted it all up front. They would not even take my travelers checks. I went to my room and the window next to the front door was broken and the screen was cut. I asked for another room and the air conditioner was not working and there was a stream of tiny ants climbing the wall. After that they started losing patience with me and told me I would have to wait. The rooms did look ok and I was to get a studio for a good price and there is a bar restaurant right there. The location is near the beach shopping and nightlife. I ended up staying at the Alegrea Hotel. The owners are friendly , there is a little restaurant there. The owners live on the premises, if things break, they fix them. It's at the east end of the beach. I ended up with a studio with just a fan, but it never got too hot in there. There is no pool, but there is a hot tub and it,s 100 feet from the beach. Some of the apartments have an ocean view, but they were not available.
Remember at any hotel in cabarete to keep all valuables in the safe. Cabarete is safe but there is plenty of petty theft.

I stayed here for a week in October and wish I hadn't.......The hotel and room was ok, nothing special but if you want somewhere cheap and central its fine.
I was in Cabarete for 6 weeks in September and October of this year and spent 1 week at the Kaoba. Unfortunately my money and mobile phone were taken from my room one night........my phone was on the charger and my money in my case......no I didn't use the safe so I can blame myself. The desk staff didn't care and all of a sudden the manager was away on holiday although none of the staff knew where.
I really felt that they didn't care and as I'm a single female traveller it was a bit scary sleeping there on a night and I couldn't wait to change to another Hotel.
As mentioned earlier the Hotel is in a prime spot in town and very cheap but I wont be going there again.

You get absolutely what you pay for at Kaoba. I stayed 6 days in a bungalow with no AC and no TV. Mainly because I did not want it to become a vacation where I stayed hidden in the room. Although there was no AC, the ceilling fan kept the room cool. The only problem is with the heat, and windows open, you are caviar to mosquitos. Unfortunately, I did have a problem where my Blackberry and money was stolen from the room. I had police do an investigation and speak with the front desk. There is one front desk employee there YOU DO NOT WANT TO INTERACT WITH! She is about 5/5, black hair, yellow skinned and wears hooker makeup around the eyes.

She pretty much blamed me for my phone and money being taken from the room. She lied and told police I had visitors/ left the window open. Then she said some Haitian (Someone I have known for a year and did not hang out with me the day my belongings were stolen) had had taken it from my room. The windows do not open so her lie was immediately debunked.

Despite the issue my belongings stolen from the room, and horrible front desk worker with bad attitude the hotel experience was okay.

We had to extend our stay in the Dominican Republic, which wouldn't have been a problem except that we had our dog with us. At the last minute, we heard about Hotel Kaoba. They are a pet friendly hotel in the fun city of Cabarete. It's a no-frills hotel, but it was clean, the pool and garden area were well kept, and the staff was friendly. There are a variety of rooms to choose from, and the price is well below what is asked by so many of the all-inclusive resorts nearby.
