“Best Rabaul Option”

Since the volcanic eruption of 1994 options for accommodation in Rabaul have become fewer. This hotel is situated close to Kokopo and appox. 10min from the airport well away from the still smoking Tavurvur volcano which can be viewed over the water from the hotel. The hotel is quite small with a couple of double storey buildings accommodating most rooms although extensions are being planned. As indicated by its name the property is located within plantations on the beach and has a great relaxed tropical feel. The ocean waters are warm and clear and are great for swimming and snorkeling-some coral and plenty of fish, there is no pool. A dive shop is located on site for trips further offshore.
There is a small bar and restaurant which provided limited choice menu of a good quality which is just as well as restaurant venues outside the resort are few.
Rooms themselves are basic but comfortable and clean. Cable TV reminds you that you are not too far from civilisation although the occasional short power outages make you think again.
In all this is a great option if visiting Rabaul for business or pleasure.

Location outside of the town of Kokopo, but only a couple of minutes drive away. Beautiful section of beach and well-kept property. There were 6 of us, so we rented one of the houses instead of getting multiple single rooms. Houses were nice and comfortable and housegirls cleaned them and washed our dishes during our stay. The on-site dive shop is independently owned and well-run. Restaurant was also good, although the kitchen staff didn't understand their own menu well and my "pasta marinara" was served with cream sauce and seafood instead of tomato sauce.

Only problem: the owner had called Air Niugini to check passenger manifests and Air Niugini told them we weren't on any flights. But, as I experienced so often in PNG, Air Niugini was wrong. So when we got to the resort, they had given our house away and had no rooms for us. We had to stay at a neighboring hotel (a dirty cheap place) the first night. The Rapopo owner said they hadn't heard from us since we booked the house, so they didn't know if we were coming (we had called them the weekend before to confirm...and there's nothing in their policy that requires you to confirm). But once we were checked in the next morning, we were very pleased with the place and found the owners to be very pleasant.
