“Pleasant No Frills Stay”

Best Western Phoenix I-17 MetroCenter

3 of 5 stars
Tampa, Florida
Mar 30, 2008

This hotel is fine for a no frills stay. $90.00 a day. I stayed in room 143 and was able to park my rental right outside my door every night. The rooms are clean and accommodating and the staff is very friendly. The breakfast included eggs, sausage, make-it-yourself waffles, fruit, muffins and toast, cereal, coffee and juices.

I would recommend it for an overnighter. It is centrally located and there is access to the highway, lots of shopping and restaurants. The area isn't so great, but I still felt safe.

The major drawback for this property is that the walls are thin and you can easily hear what is going on in the rooms next to you and outside. A pair of foam ear plugs cured that easily. It was just a little noisy, but the fact that it is spring break may have added to the volume...not bad, but a little loud. (Who would go to the Best Western in Phoenix for spring break anyway? I thought that was a little peculiar, but who knows.)

I saw no cockroaches, not a single bug while I was here and that is great for this area since it is surrounded by many restaurants, stores etc...Phoenix is notorious for the little buggers!

My biggest gripe is that I had to call for housekeeping everyday to have my room made up. I don't get it. I am a frequent guest at Best Western and know that the room incluces housekeeping. Not sure what happened with that.

“Gimme A Break...”

Best Western Phoenix I-17 MetroCenter

Mar 7, 2008

Upon checking into this hotel, we found out that "Refridgerator upon request" means, "If you want a room with a King, you'll have to pay extra for that!" Ok, no biggy, I guess... it was just one night, after all. We got to our room, and we were pleasantly surprised with how clean it was. Nice layout, plenty of space, decent channel selection, the bed wasn't too hard... Thought we'd made a good decision, so we left for dinner (with nowhere to put any left-overs)...

Since this hotel is right off the busy I-17, we were concerned with the noise factor. Turns out, the freeway noise wasn't noticable from our room! However, we heard every person walking up & down the stairs all night and early the next morning. We heard every door nearby slam. Usually I'd just turn on the fan to cover up that kind of noise, but the A.C. unit in these rooms doesn't have a fan that stays on, it just blows loudly for 5-10 minutes and doesn't come back on for 30 (anybody familiar with this area at all knows that a good A.C. is EXTREMELY important!) At 8 a.m. the landscapers started up with the leaf blowers and lawn mowers. So since I'm up, I'll go to the "Breakfast Buffet" (Ha! Better get there earlier than that if you want something other that stale bagles/muffins and room temp milk & cereal) and then requested a later check-out, hoping that we could eventually get some rest before a long day of driving, but instead it got noisier... After the landscapers left, the hotel decides to pressure wash all of the walkways (powered by a VERY loud air compressor). After accepting that we were not going to get anymore sleep, we did take a nice shower. Pretty sad when the highlight of your stay is a decent shower head... To be fair, we have stayed in worse. But it just seemed to one thing after another. The icing on the cake (since this was a birthday trip, after all...) was when we checked out. Brought up the noise problem to the front desk, and didn't get so much as an appology. "Oh. They're cleaning the floors." Really? Well, thanks for clearing that up! Then we got to the car, parked downstairs from our room, only to find that all the nasty run-off from their floors had splashed all over my newly detailed car. And so I said, "I need to write a review for this place!" You'll read mixed reviews here. I did. That's part of the reason I chose this hotel. The good outwieghed the bad & the price was reasonable... And if you're a heavy sleeper who has to wake up early anyway, and doesn't mind warm nights on stiff sheets, and would basically be happy just to have a roof over your head and a free breakfast (many of us HAVE been there), then you'll really enjoy this place! We normally enjoy staying at Best Western, but I was quite unhappy with this experience.

“Clean hotel, great stay”

Best Western Phoenix I-17 MetroCenter

4 of 5 stars
Little Rock, AR

I got the one bedroom. The bed was great. It seemed bigger than a Queen bed. I loved the tv stations choicies. They had HBO, ESPN, Speed chanel, Disney and etc. This was a clean hotel. I didn't see any specs on the floor. Bathroom was great. I saw no mold. The showerhead was new. There was a coffee maker and hairdryer that you could use. The dresser was big with lots of drawers to unpack clothes in. The only problem that I had was the door to the bathroom would not shut. There is a Denny's resturant close by. We ate there twice. Food was great. They had the regualar contential breakfast that was available. K-mart is across the highway so if you need any items it was convenient. My stay was great. They even printed out our boarding passes for us.

“Nice hotel but....”

Best Western Phoenix I-17 MetroCenter

We stopped at the Best Western Metro Center after the Grand Canyon visit and prior to an early morning flight. The hotel is located more in a business park, but it was quiet, clean and there were some good restaurants nearby.

Our check in was friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and generally nice. We felt safe walking around the area. We walked to an upscale Mexican restaurant for dinner.

The trouble began when we were getting ready for bed. Without warning, someone unlocked our door and tried to enter. We had the chain on, and yelled out....they still banged at the door trying to gain entry. We slammed the door closed and called the desk. "Oh" was the reply. "Your're not supposed to be in there". Since we'd been assigned the room, given a key, and instructions on where the room was, it didn't make sense. "You should be elsewhere" was the only explanation. We let it slide, until the next morning when we went to breakfast (they had a fair breakfast for guests)....when we returned to our room we were locked out. The key had been changed for the intruder and as far as I know he still had it. We went to the desk and complained, got a new key, and a bland smile. after relating our experience....and were given a weak excuse.....I took their comment card and wrote corporate, who referred it to the manager (who, we learned was the one who checked us in)....and got a "these things happen. Please come again".
Not likely! This sort of mistake could cost someone their life....While the hotel is nice, I will not go there again....a sincere apology and an effort to make amends would have made a big difference.

Have usually found Best Westerns to be reliable and this is no exception. Prompt & friendly service, quiet rooms, good facilities (including pool & internet) and nice choice of free breakfast.
Recommended.
