We just spent four nights in the Madero which we used as a base for touring the top BA sights- Microcento, Recoleta, San Telmo, La Boca. These are all witin walking distance, so the hotel is perfectly located. The Puerto Madero is a wonderful rehabilitation/new development are, all flashy and new but not without a soul. However, if you want to be in a "historic" part of town, this is not the place for you.
Plenty of restaurants nearby- but we found out that the ones in San Telmo and Palermo are more atmosheric than the establishments in Puerto Madero.
As to the hotel- the rooms are huge (our standard room included a balcony and a separate bar area), most with great views. The breakfast is a fine collection, the bar is nice with great (dangerously so) cocktails. And the rooftop pool and deck are just pure bliss at the end of a long day of sightseeing.
So if you're looking for a base for your BA sightseeing, look no further!
