Having stayed at Sun Village last year we had decided that we didn't want to risk another hotel and spoil our fantastic memories of Goa. With some persistance we eventually found a tour company with a vacancy. Astounded to be greeted by faces who remembered us from last year. The rooms are basic to UK standard 4 star but you have to compare it against the rooms available locally ... certainly spoken to people with horror stories. The choice of food is excellent .. if you want to go to India and eat Steak & Chips don't stay at Sun Village! If you want to sample a vast array of perfectly cooked dishes then this is ideal. No tummy problems. The Gala evenings and A La Carte at Frangipani are excellent .. even worth the climb up the steps, but we all need some exercise! We were surprised that the British in the hotel had decided that due to lack of Germans they would do sunlounger hogging by 7am (we noted that there were certain guests who laid books out the night before and a couple whose towels were on the loungers all day, they arrived at 3pm in the afternoon and vacated the loungers by 4.15pm). The hotel cannot be blamed for that and I know of complaints that were dealt with when raised by guests on this matter. Beers and water always cold, red wines and local champagne worth a try. A visit to Raj jewellers (just outside the entrance) was a must after last years bargain .. diamond ring valued at 2 1/2 times paid for in India. Try the manicure and pedicure ... perfect nails for the holiday. The Ayuervadic massage is worth a try but not for the faint hearted. I celebrated my birthday here and on returning from a day trip discovered the hotel had put flowers in the room and a delicious birthday cake in the fridge .. nice touch. Very friendly and helpful staff. We did eat out a couple of times so we could enjoy the sunset on the beach but I'd still prefer to pay the extra and have the standards at Sun Village. Planning our return trip and hoping that it doesn't become too popular and the "Hoggers" decide it's not their cup of tea!
