“Good holiday”

Sun Village

I booked a singles holiday and was accommodated in the Sun Village for one week. I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were basic but better than expected. If I had wanted 5 star luxury from a chain hotel I would have booked into the Marriott. Food was good at the hotel. We always managed to get our group booked for al a carte. I always managed to get sunbeds at the pool at 9am. Staff were very helpful and it always is the same anywhere in the world. Treat hotel staff well and not as servants and you will be well looked after.

I am already looking at going back.

Second time in Sun Village' Could not get a friendlier place, The staff are polite and helpfull. The Chef is brilliant.Highly recommend for coeliacs. Each night he would come and tell me what I could eat. Usually I could eat most things, even then often he would make me a special dish with wonderfull sauces. I have travelled worldwide often in 5 star hotel and never been able to eat as well. The accommodation is not luxury but excellent value and very clean. We had a wonderfull holiday. Friends came with us for the first time and can't wait to go back. Well done Sun Village

Having stayed at Sun Village last year we had decided that we didn't want to risk another hotel and spoil our fantastic memories of Goa. With some persistance we eventually found a tour company with a vacancy. Astounded to be greeted by faces who remembered us from last year. The rooms are basic to UK standard 4 star but you have to compare it against the rooms available locally ... certainly spoken to people with horror stories. The choice of food is excellent .. if you want to go to India and eat Steak & Chips don't stay at Sun Village! If you want to sample a vast array of perfectly cooked dishes then this is ideal. No tummy problems. The Gala evenings and A La Carte at Frangipani are excellent .. even worth the climb up the steps, but we all need some exercise! We were surprised that the British in the hotel had decided that due to lack of Germans they would do sunlounger hogging by 7am (we noted that there were certain guests who laid books out the night before and a couple whose towels were on the loungers all day, they arrived at 3pm in the afternoon and vacated the loungers by 4.15pm). The hotel cannot be blamed for that and I know of complaints that were dealt with when raised by guests on this matter. Beers and water always cold, red wines and local champagne worth a try. A visit to Raj jewellers (just outside the entrance) was a must after last years bargain .. diamond ring valued at 2 1/2 times paid for in India. Try the manicure and pedicure ... perfect nails for the holiday. The Ayuervadic massage is worth a try but not for the faint hearted. I celebrated my birthday here and on returning from a day trip discovered the hotel had put flowers in the room and a delicious birthday cake in the fridge .. nice touch. Very friendly and helpful staff. We did eat out a couple of times so we could enjoy the sunset on the beach but I'd still prefer to pay the extra and have the standards at Sun Village. Planning our return trip and hoping that it doesn't become too popular and the "Hoggers" decide it's not their cup of tea!

“Never again!”

We stayed here for 2 weeks. The rooms were a bit basic. The food was ok but it was basically the same menu every day. After a few days we were a bit tired of the lack of choice. We ate out every night after that. We could not get a reservation in the A La carte restaurant as it was always fully booked. We could not get a cold beer or cold bottles of water from any of the bars.(Alway warm) This is an all inclusive hotel. Management were not interested as was the tour rep. There were insufficient sun beds and space around the 2 pools. You had to get up at 7 o'clock to "Claim" your sun bed. This is certainly not a 4 star hotel. We will not be back!

“Beware!”

This hotel has a tendency to overbook. We booked it 6 months in advance of our visit as did 2 other couples who also made the 12 hour flight to stay there. On arrival at the airport we were given the news. They'd overbooked and we were going elsewhere. Not the tour operators fault. Blame lies fairly and squarely with the hotel. The rep later told us that they do this all the time. Best advice? Look elsewhere.
