“Didnt want to leave”

Constantia Uitsig Country Hotel

Apr 29, 2008

We arrived after a long flight from Dubai and checked in without any hassle. We had the Victorian double, initially we were a bit shocked as we had just come from Dubai were everything is all state of the art, this doesnt mean the room was bad just a bit different,my wife had a bit of an issue with the bathroom but it was overcome. The room had everything you need even the electrical adaptor needed for South Africa. The Constantia Uitsig restaurant didnt quite live up to expectations although the staff were brilliant and of course the wine was fantastic!!Breakfast was brilliant and in a great location too We stayed for 5 nights and to be honest we were a bit "fooded" out at the end,the hotel is a little bit out in the sticks so it was really difficult to go any where else to eat ,although we went to the Steenberg Vineyard restaurant.
All the staff except a couple were fantastic and we think Kirk in reception deserves a special mention,he couldnt do enough for you and always with a smile. The River Cafe was great for a cuppa and a cake although it closed at 5pm.
Overall for just the peace and quiet and very pleasant surroundings the hotel is a must and we would happily stay there again,

“A little gem of a hotel”

We stayed here for three nights as part of our honeymoon and had a fabulous time. We arrived at 9.30 am after an overnight flight and our room was ready straightaway, not only that but we were upgraded to a suite!
The hotel is very laid back and the staff really friendly. The suite was fantastic, loads of space. We loved the fact that tea and coffee was brought to your room every morning and that we got a complimentary bottle of the delicious constantia uitsig wine.
There is a relatively new spa which is really luxurious and the treatments were indulgent and very good value.
The food in the restaurants has a well deserved reputation as some of the best in south africa, although I don't think it is quite on a par with the michelin starred restaurants in London. In fact the food at the river cafe at the end of the drive was our favourite, try one of their huge club sandwiches for lunch.
Breakfast looking over the vineyards towards table mountain was a wonderful experience.
We didnt have a car but the hotel recommended a wonderful local tour guide who would either simply act as a taxi, providing you with interesting local info on route or give you a full scale tour. The prices were really reasonable.

“Top notch”

We spent 4 nights in a victorian double room in September 2007. It was faultless - great value on the dinner bed and breakfast package (sadly the hotel aren't continuing this package in 2008). The room was lovely - tasteful, v large with an extremely comfortable bed. The food at La Colombe was superb - the best we had in South Africa.
I was reluctant to leave!

“An absolute gem!”

Constantia Uitsig Country Hotel

We were in the Cape Town area for two weeks, and we stumbled on this in our first week, looking for a great restaurant. We booked on impulse for one night, and ended up staying 3. My partner and I have travelled very widely, and this is without a doubt a gem. We moved rooms halfway - a consequence of not booking in advance, and both rooms were beautiful, spacious, lots of lovely touches, like the complimentary bottle of Constantia Uitsig wine in the room with a handwritten note! And the breakfasts......!!! You could not want for a better breakfast away. The wonderful lady that serves you in the morning always has something up her chef sleeve. I loved the french toast with bananas and bacon. It was a brillant way to start the days sightseeing.
As others have said, the setting is beautiful and we have lots of photos! If you go - check out the private cricket pitch set amongst the vines.
And I haven't even mentioned the 2 fabulous restaurants. La Colombe is supposed to be one of the best in the world. Personally we preferred the Constantia Uitsig - an italian flavour, but both were spectacular meals, and moments from your own front door.
We fell in love with each other again and with this lovely place. We'll definately be back.

“Warning- theft happens everywhere in S. Africa- even this place”

The place is pretty- the wine is not the best of all S. African wines though (you would think it would be based on this expensive place and massive vineyards). We actually liked the S. African wines and this was not a good one in our opinion. We had a camera stolen from our hotel and nothing was done about it- the hotel went back and forth on making us fil out forms to insurance and then they just said no. It was a really expensive stay (and mediocre on-site restaurant that was very expensive as well) for a bad experience! left a sour note on our so far beautiful trip..
