We wanted to go to Bora Bora for our honeymoon, but the timing wasn't right so we set a goal to make it there sometime soon. As most all reviews reveal, this resort is amazing.
We had a horizon view OWB and it was amazing. No need to repeat the numerous accolades from all other reviewers other than to just say, they are right.
The spa is similarly wonderful - set up on the hillside. As a tip, ask one of the pool boys to drive you up to the top of the hill around sunset for a great photo op. We were oblivious to the view until late in our stay there, one of the pool boys came up to me and offered to take our picture up there. He mentioned the view was great and he had noticed in the log of guests that our time in paradise was fast approaching an end. We met him the next night at the pool and he drove us up for an outstanding picture. Probably our favorite picture from the trip. I think this also speaks to how friendly everyone there is.
We enjoyed taking the catamaran out for an hour or so. If there is wind, I strongly recommend this. Again, see the pool boys for this service and they will gladly captain you for a nice trip.
We dined at Iriatai most nights or Tamure Grill. At the Tamure Grill (the sand floor restaurant) we enjoyed two different shows. The shows are free and if you are interested, I recommend making reservations at least 2 days in advance. You don't need reservations, but if you reserve early, you will receive front row tables for the show (much better view).
Iriatai is a nice restaurant for breakfast and dinner. We had one minor issue one night (they didn't have the first 2 bottles of wine I ordered) and they fell all over themselves apologizing for it. They more than made up for it and then the next night they told me they had both in stock in case we wanted our earlier selection. We found the food/service/ambiance at Iriatai to be excellent. Again, make reservations the day before (or earlier) and they will treat you to the best tables (on terrace - front row). Splendid views from here.
After reading reviews on here, we were a bit nervous about the food. Actually, we found it quite nice.
Attend a manager's reception one of the evenings you are there; nice opportunity to watch the sunset, meet some of the staff and enjoy cocktails.
As everyone says, the snorkeling is simply amazing.
It was "rainy season" when we went; it rained 3x in one week for a cumulative total of 60 minutes of rain during our trip. Yes, we were lucky, but after talking to the staff, "rainy" season seems like a strong term. Doesn't sound like it ever rains all the time, unless you are unlucky enough to catch a minor typhoon.
As a tip, we went to Viatape a few times using the free shuttle. Viatape is nothing splendid, however they have a grocery store where you can buy bottled water and other sundries. In addition, if you walk up from the dock and to your left at the street. About 400 yards down (opposite side of street from the grocery store), there is a charming, French cafe. It is a nice lunch spot. Incidentally, the grocery store has an abundant assortment of French wine if you prefer to have a bottle perhaps with in-room dining (we did; just ensure you ask for wine glasses when you place your order).
As the BBN and the St Regis are both part of Starwood, we were interested to see the difference (St R had just opened a few months before). We mentioned to the front desk we were considering a future stay at the St R and they graciously offered to make arrangements for us to see the property. They sent a high speed boat just for us and whisked us over to the St R. It is truly lovely; however we both agreed we would return to the BBN instead of a trip to the St R. However, one point in the St R's favor, we had lunch at the poolside restaurant. It was spectacular. If lunch is any indication, the dining is probably better at the St R. However, for the views, the rooms, the beach, etc etc, etc, we would return to the BBN.
As the title of this review says, just go. You will never regret it. Truly the most special place we have ever had the luck to enjoy.
