“Rejected offer to come back and stay for free.”

Omni Austin Hotel Downtown

Jun 30, 2008

Big hassle with my bill and accounting department. Some idiot was using the wrong expiration date to authorize my credit card. Three days after check-in, my friend treats me to a massage, pays at the front desk, and the hotel maxed-out her credit card later in the day. I should have been notified so that I could explain the difference between 2010 and 2011 to the hotel staff that accused me of trying to check in with a bad credit card. This was so rude. After being offered a free night to give the hotel another try, I said "I'll never stay at this hotel again." The front desk was apologetic, yet arrogant. I've been treated better at 2 star hotels.

“Best smelling hotel room ever!”

Omni Austin Hotel Downtown

Stayed at the Omni June 16-18th, 2008. I have to say it was the best smelling hotel room ever. It had just been redone so that new furniture may have contributed to the fresh smell. The king bed was comfortable but the sheets were a bit starchy. The bathroom was nice and big. My biggest complaint about the room was the shower curtain was so dark that you could barely see to shave your legs in the shower. They need a light in there. I had the thermostat down to 66 and that was comfortable so I think the system may have been a bit off as I am use to a 72 degree house.

The rest of the hotel was good. Staff was very friendly even the door men. The elevators were slow because they were working on one. It was a good location for going out on 6th as well as using the free Dillo trolley.

    • Liked — It was very clean and good location
    • Disliked — It was pricey for drinks (water and soda) and if you were disabled you couldn't go to the pool

“Buyer Beware”

Omni Austin Hotel Downtown

Jun 22, 2008

Buyer Beware.... This Omni has a "party policy" that you sign stating that you will pay for other guests hotel rooms if you disrupt their sleep. Seems fair enough ....but if you enter the hotel after 2 am, the management will then stalk you up to your room and then claim you disrubted someone's sleep and not only do you have to leave in the middle of the night you must pay for the other guests room. Total scam if you ask me. They would never show proof that the other guests room was comped... What people will do to increase revenues these days.

Management Response
GenMgrAustin, Manager
(Management representative)

It is true we ask our guests to sign a letter saying they will be civil when they return to the hotel late at night. The vast majority of our guests come to the hotel and anticipate a great stay. Some however come for other reasons. We are both fortunate and at a disadvantage with our location one block from 6th Street. Most guests return late at night on a weekends and go to sleep. Some return with new found "friends" and feel it is ok to create a disturbance at 3AM. We believe that these people are not Omni Hotes guests. We welcome everyone to come and enjoy our hotel. We simply ask those who come to go to 6th street and return only to try to bring the party back to the hotel to choose another locsation. We have 314 newly renovated guest rooms and we welcome singles, families and guests celebrating special occassions to come and join us. It is truely a great hotel.

“Downtown refuge close to everything”

Omni Austin Hotel Downtown

The Omni was perfectly situated for everything we wanted to do in Austin. We were able to obtain a very good rate on their web site as they offer several different packages. Although our initial room had an unfortunate leak in the bathroom, the manager quickly apologized and moved us up to the club level which offered evening wine and cheese and morning breakfast. The most oustanding thing about this hotel was the service. Everyone from the valet to the bellman to the concierge were extremely friendly and helpful.

“Bad Service - Bad for Business”

Omni Austin Hotel Downtown

Jun 4, 2008

Went on a business trip and stayed at this property. Rooms are not business friendly - few electrical outlets, really bad desk chair, few instructions for business facilities in hotel.

Was taking a shower when dirty water from the shower above began pouring through the vent and onto my head. I reported it to the front desk and the clerk was less than sympathetic and treated it as if nothing happened to me. She "blew me off." I was not pleased.

I received a "form email" after the stay telling me how much they enjoyed having me stay with them, blah, blah, blah. It was addressed to Mr. XXX and I am a woman. My name is feminine so I really took offense at continuing to receive this type of "service."

This was a personally funded business trip and this hotel's rates are well above $250. I can pay less for bad/indifferent service elsewhere.
