Stayed here for a weekend business trip. Thought it would have been a nice retreat from the standard business hotels since we didn’t need all the normal computer access.
I'll start with a positive. In general the hotel was very clean. The bathrooms especially were VERY nice. The room was a basic hotel room.
Now, here’s why I would never go back or recommend this hotel: The location is a off the beaten path. You can not walk to the main areas of Austin (6th Street, The Capital building). You even have to drive to the local gym that the hotel gives you a day pass for…and it’s not that great.
My co-worker’s room smelled of mildew so they brought in an air filter. After 2 days…the room was still fowl. And surprisingly…they were booked solid so a room change wasn’t available. As mentioned in other reviews, the beds ARE uncomfortable. I had 2 queens in my room – tried changing beds but the other one was just as uncomfortable. They weren’t mushy or too broken in…they just weren’t comfortable.
The front desk is rude and clueless. I must have interacted with 4 different people at the front desk and all of them acted like they were basically there to check you in and out…and that’s it. They also did not give me the 7am wake up call I needed - luckily I woke up! I asked for directions and they rattle them off like you’re a local! No maps, no local info. Asked for a list of local Catholic churches and they started a Google search! Most hotels have a printed form with times and locations. Asked for directions back to the airport…they just mentioned a few streets and weren't even sure!!! No preprinted info.
Austin is an amazing city, thankfully we didn’t have to spend too much time in the hotel or we would have just been more aggravated. Next time I’ll stay at a business hotel or even try the recommended San Jose Hotel.
For what they charge…The Mansion is totally not worth it.
