This hotel is amogst the best I have stayed in.
The staff are super friendly (as are all Malaysians I met) and they greet you by your name if they remember it.
The location is excellent, right next door to the Petronas Towers, ask for a tower view room, you cant stop staring out of the window. The decor was perfectly understated, but still felt grand, with lots of marble floors and thick carpets.
I had a club room (top 7 or so floors) which was sumptuous, with small gifts and fruit. The Club rooms also allow use of the Club Lounge which has a mini-restaurant for breakfast snacks and drinks, a small office with desks for work, including internet terminals, and, deep joy, a pool table. The club opackage also includes some free laundry services and rapid check in/out amongst other things.
There is a very good spacious gymnasium with all the cardio machines and free weights you could need, the pool has an infinity edge, and is randomly shaped, I'm not sure if it has a straight run of 25m for serious swimmers, I didnt try it.
There are several restaurants which look great, but I only had one rushed buffet meal during my stay so cant comment. However, this is Malaysia, for a real dining expreience go to one of the "street restaurants" on Jalan Alor. Try Restoran Fatt Tuck Choy for amazing sea food.
I was picked up at KUL airport by a Mandarin Oriental Driver. Very efficient and easy to spot in their red jackets. He was a friendly and chatty man, and gave me a brief history of Malaysia! However it was a bit pricy, even by UK standards, at around £50 for 40 minutes to the city centre.
The Price: All this luxury cost MYR1000 a night, sounds like a lot? Nope; One hunderd and fifty quid!
I'll be back.
