At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the Hyatt Regency Kyoto is an absolute treat of a hotel.

We stayed at this hotel after nearly a week at the Hyatt Regency Osaka. We were so impressed by the Osaka hotel that we changed our Kyoto accommodation arrangements so we could swap to the Hyatt Regency.

And we were glad we did. The Kyoto hotel was even more impressive than Osaka (by ia wide margin!) and, while it was more expensive than the accommodation that we originally booked, was worth every penny.

The hotel has a beautiful soft, approachable ambiance, so much so that you don't feel like you're staying at a large hotel chain.

We had a garden view room on the ground floor and it was more of a suite than hotel room - it must have been over 50m2.

But be warned, we only managed to get a room for a few nights when a cancellation was made, so book well in advance.

The bathroom was the highlight, with a beautiful deep tub, and open shower space with plenty of room for two.

We also found that, unlike much of Japan, most of the staff spoke very good English, which made the stay less stressful than some of our other experiences.

If you're going to be in Kyoto, treat yourself to this hotel, even if it means sacrificing elsewhere in Japan :)

I couldn't agree more with the other posters. Hyatt Regency Kyoto was an amazing hotel. Before going on our trip, I emailed the hotel and inquired about free taxi ride from the Kyoto station. In passing, I had told them about how this was going to be our honeymoon and how much I was looking forward to it.

Fast forward to February, when we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by the friendliest of hotel staff. They first took our luggage and sat us down in the hotel lobby area, while they prepared the paper work at the check-in counter. The concierge representative came over, congratulated us and gave me a rose. Once we got to our room, we found champagne and strawberries waiting for us and a kind note from the hotel manager about the matrimony. The front desk reserved tables for us at local restaurants and guided us to the different sites around Kyoto. We ordered our bullet train tickets from the hotel, who had staff pick up our tickets for a nominal taxi delivery fee. We would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat and would totally recommend this hotel.

I loved everything about this hotel. My husband and I stayed here at the start of our honeymoon. From the moment we checked in, the staff made us feel very welcome. Their hospitality was extraordinary. The room was beautifully decorated with a kimono headboard, but the bathroom was probably my favorite part of the room. The tub was a deep Japanese soaking tub and the shower was open and spacious. The technology was also great. The room key activates the lights, as well as the do not disturb sign.

The location of the hotel was very convenient for sightseeing. Although I would recommend taking a cab to the hotel if you have a lot of luggage, it was an easy 15-20 min walk to the station otherwise. If you don't min a bit of walking, you can get to many of Kyoto's shrines and temples on foot from the Hyatt. I would definitely stay here again!

Booked Hyatt Kyoto by the recommendation of Japanese travel agency in NY. They know where to stay. I give this hotel 5 stars. Very modern with Western contemporary and Japanese taste blended. My favorite was bathroom. Very spacious and again Western and Japanese blend. I have never seen such nice bathroom. Room was very clean and comfortable, though there was no special view as my room was standard room. Room rate may be a little pricy, but I recommend this hotel if you pay similar money to another hotel.
