This was a perfectly acceptable hotel in every way--except for its location, which was far from the tourist action, and far from restaurants and shops. In pursuit of inexpensive meals, we wound up having breakfast at the exact same place each day, and tried every yakitori joint in easy walking distance--kind of a drag. Staff was helpful and rooms nicely appointed, however. I noticed lots of tour groups here-- the location is fine for groups with their own transport. We learned the bus system and spent alot (too much) time traveling to/from the sites.

This was a really disappointing stay. The hotel is huge, the room Ok and staff good enough, however the location is terrible, on a busy main road a long way from the sites and above all there are absolutely no restaurants in the area. The choice we had in the evening after a hard day's sightseeing, was a fast food ( Japanese style) crowded restaurant opposite the hotel which was very mediocre, or the hotel restaurant itself where the prices were quite beyond our reach.
To add to this, the bedrooms on floors below the 6th give out onto a blank wall, so there is absolutely no view and poor light and the already gloomy rooms are downright depressing. If you want a bed for the night but no more, this is fine. For a longer stay, or if you want to eat or walk in town, go somewhere else.

We stayed in this hotel for business during one night. The hotel was booked via our Japanese agent. Very friendly and helpful reception.

Room 662 is spacious enough (for Japanese standard) and well maintained. Internet works fine (get your cable at reception if it isn't in your room) and is for free. Especially entertaining are all the stickers and instructions in your room. Bathroom is small, but has all necessities available. Make sure to specify a non-smoking room if you don't smoke.

Breakfast was fine, albeit a bit on the expensive side. Not the greatest choice in foods I had in Japan.

The location is also excellent, right next to a big temple complex which was partly under construction during our visit.

Not too appealing from the outside once you enter the foyer you must go down stairs into reception. Although reception overlooks a lovely water feature it does give an underground feeling.
Reception and concerige are quite helpful and taxis will help you get anywhere you need to go. A taxi to the old Gion quarter is only approx 1000 Yen. Whilst a taxi into Kyoto city area is 640 Yen.
Hotel is in between the Gion and kyoto city but on the otherside. Kyoto has a very good bus system to get around. Easier then the train.
Rooms are very nice and big enough with kettle tv and large bathrooms. Safe in room cupboard.
