“Great, great hotel!”

Renaissance Makati City Hotel

We stayed here over New Year's 2007 and were very impressed with the hotel and lobby as we walked in.

Pros
- Front desk service was great and very helpful.
- We stayed on the club level and the lounge there had everything you needed, food, drinks, internet, TV...
- awesome location right across the street from Greenbelt 3, a huge shopping plaza comprised of 5 major sections
- very clean and rooms were very spacious (club level)

Cons
- we booked a massage for the next morning with strict request that it had to be right at 9am as we were leaving for a flight at noon, but when i got there at 9am the next morning, they were scrambling to try and get a masseuse in still.....

I'd definitely stay there again when in Makati!

“No Value for the money”

Renaissance Makati City Hotel

Here is an review of another hotel, which one should mind. The Renaisance in Makati, Manila.
Maybe it was just an unlucky stay, but there were some incidents that should not have happened. Starting with the rooms, which are clearly below all standards in terms of cleanliness and smell (similar like a public toilet), it continuous with the services of the staff. One example? Here it comes. I gave my shirts to dry cleaning. I chose dry cleaning, because the fabrics, which might be a bit sensitive. When they came back, they looked like they have been washed, and worse, one shirt did not appreciate the treatment. At at least 10 spots, the fabric has been destroyed and the treats came of the main fabric. Obviously, I did complain. The reaction was: “Sir, no problem, this is just a shirt”. Of course did I ask for some kind of reparation. I was then offered to get 1000 points to my Starwood member card. Since they did not want to pay for the shirt (although they state in the general terms and conditions that they would) I finally accepted the offer as an apology to what has happened, if I get back my shirt. Deal! Only that they kept the shirt. I assume a luck bastard in the laundry wears now my 80 dollar shirt and I am still waiting for the credit of 1000 Starwood points.
My two days stay was full with similar experiences. So when I finally checked out – I was puzzled again. First of all – the price was much higher than expected. USD 140 for Sunday, USD 160 for Monday. Different days – different rates I was told. The rates were +++, i.e. USD 30 for the breakfast (remember, we talking about Manila – The Philippines), 10% Service charge and some VAT. The lift to and from the airport was accounted with USD 70 each (a 20 minutes ride) and last but not least the exchange rate. All the prices are indicated in USD, what they do is: They calculate at a fictive rate of 51 to the USD instead of the official 47 / 48, which makes everything again more expensive. Since I always carry USD, I insisted in paying cash. This was fortunately possible but only after recalculating the prices so that the value becomes the same (USD 140 / 48 * 51, and so on). The two night stay including laundry and lifts took me back USD 500.
Not too bad for the quality of three star hotel, is it?

I've stayed here a couple of times on business and while not having much to really complain about this hotel it is also nothing to write home about.
For the price the rooms are a tad on the small side and furnished in a dull practical fashion, but the are clean and the bed is good.
Service is good but I've never actually had bad service in a hotel in the Philippines so doesn't really mark it out.
Breakfast - err don't bother the bacon is truly horrendous occasionly there are streaks of meat in the fat.
Gym very so so only cardio machines as far as I could see anyway.
Overall unexceptional.

This place is well-located within Makati - lots of shops, restaurants etc and only about 20 mins from the airport.

The rooms are spacious and clean withour being hugely lavish but the beds are very comfortable and spotless, plus the bathroom has a separate shower area :-)

Breakfast is excellent and the staff are all very nice.

“Good Location and Very Pleasant Staff”

Renaissance Makati City Hotel

Hotel is ideally located in the central business district of Makati. It is literally in front of a huge upscale shopping centre. It is a good base in Metro Manila to attend meetings and conferences.

Service was excellent. During my stay at the Renaissance, I got a terrible headache after spending the whole day attending meetings. I called the reception and ask if there's a nearby pharmacy where I can buy medicine. They told me not to worry as they can provide me with the medicine. After a few minutes, their in-house pharmacist came to my room and gave me the medicine. And at check out, they even asked me if I was feeling better.

Such simple gesture made me feel that I am welcome in this hotel and I will definitely stay at the Renaissance on my next visit to Manila.
