We write briefly to add our support for the Park Hotel Tokyo and mention a few other notables.
We found the location of the hotel to be perfect for our tastes, first as a designated stop on the limousine bus line from Narita airport, then as a point of departure to the Ginza district, the Shiodome subway station, and the JR Train station.
(But be forewarned and make no mistake about it: maps and guides and compass and preparation notwithstanding, you will inevitably, as our guidebook stated, get lost at some point....Have no fear for you will eventually, given enough time and practice, figure out the lay of the land in Tokyo and, failing that, come to rely on the good nature of a Japanese stranger for directions)
The area surrounding the hotel is chock full of restaurants, shopping areas, and one of the neatest, large scale, colorful, imaginative, acrobatic, musical, clock towers we have ever observed (see the third floor promenade).
The check-in desk, it bears repeating, is backlit by an amazing view of the Tokyo skyline. The lobby is ample with soaring sight lines.
We had a city view room with a queen bed. The 'snug' size of the room set us slightly aback at first but we adapted; ditto the bath and shower. Housekeeping is dependable. We were generally comfortable.
The breakfast buffet is a real treat with a nice selection of items, set up along one of the back walls in the lobby. Guests sit informally in oversized chairs at low set tables. The cost is about $25/pp at current conversion rates.
Service at the hotel is, in the seeming Asian tradition, attentive, polite, endearing. Our room rate, roughly 17,500 yen for an 'early bird' booking, is terrific. We hope the hotel is able to maintain such an attractive rate. We would surely like to return.
