I just spent a week at hotel El Olf in Hammamet. I had a low budget holiday so didn't expect a lot, but got very good value for money. The hotel is lovely (very charming place), the people working in the hotel very welcoming and friendly.
Rooms were cleaned on a daily basis.
My package holiday inclued Half Board. Breakfast was OK, only thing I missed was fresh fruit.
As for dinner, very nice, especially the freshly baked Arab bread and most of all, the deserts (not good for people on a diet).

Was pleasantly surprised that the hotel recently opened a Spa as well, used the facilities a few times, very professional and clean.

Only thing I could see as disturbing was the very loud music played at the pool side, not relaxing to stay in the pool aerea with terrible (poor taste of music) music at top volume.

We stayed in this hotel for a week and we didn't like it because:
- The food was very bad, always the same, too spicy and it caused us some stomach problems;
- lack of fruits and healthy food;
- lots of flies around the food and around us;
- some smells in the restaurant were disgusting;
- we had to wait till the end of the afternoon to get some bath towels and they weren't very clean;
- the sheets were torn and yellow and sometimes they forgot to put pillow-cases;
- the swimming-pool was always crowded;
- we asked at the reception, to wake us at 6.00 a.m. to go for a visit tour and they didn't call us!
It was not a 4 stars service, It was more like a 2 stars service.

My husband and I stayed at the El Olf hotel from 23 rd to 30th August 2006. It'a a 4* hotel and it's normal to expect service of such level. We have had "all inclusive" arrangement. The hotel is quite nice, and so are the rooms (spacious and lovely decorated). No mini- bar, sef at the reception. The hygiene of the bathroom and the cleanness of the room depend of how much money you leave to the cleaning lady. A 2 TD/per day tip will do to have a room cleaned. The towels are horrible: suggest to bring your own. The swimming pool is great, clean - no remarks.
The staff: the ladies at the reception are fabulous, opened to help, give service and information at high level. There is a young male combination at the reception so arrogant, changing money under formal course and very very rude.
The waiters are lazy and cheeky, they do not hesitate to take tip but do nothing back.
The food is quite spicy, mediocre. The all inclusive includes beverage- this is awful: they give you plastic cups not so well washed, dilueted coca cola and beer that's undrinkable. You can of course get bottled coke if you pay 2 TD.
I loved Tunis, the Hammamet region, and we had great time there. They need to train their waiters (even in a high class restaurants) to achieve a normal (european) standards of quality and they also need to be more clean.
We enjoyed the beach (near the hotel) which is fabulous- perfect sea, beach, umbrellas...:-), the walks, the medinas, cities we saw, riding on camels and the parfume of yasmine.
An advice to all travellers: if you can afford it, take a minimum 5* hotel, because many people that we encoutered from other 4* hotels were also disappointed.
Enjoy your stay in Tunis, it's a really nice country
