“Yes, it's nice, but the are some major minuses”

Iberostar Averroes

Starting from advantages:

The hotel is well located with 5 min walk to Medina with Carthage Land (that is really nice not only for children but for adults as well). A tourist train to the old part of Hammamet is a must, this how you will feel the difference and understand that Yasmine Hammamet is a heaven, also just nice to walk in old Medina and bastille.

The grounds are well kept and the swimming pool is really beautiful.

The rooms are ok, 4 stars class.

Food is standard, not superb, but ok, always smth to find, don't miss the grill near the swimming pool-this is where we spent our lunches. A la carte are just menu offers, you can't choose, good to change the atmosphere but nothing to be impressed.

MINUSES:

1. The beach and the sea: the sea was dirty and the beach, theu don't clean the seaweed, 10 meters away the beach was much better

2. The Beach lounges without tables to put the things ,which was really a problem if you don't want your clothes to be in sand.

3. NO BEACH BAR, it was supposed that a waiter would bring the drinks, but imagine 2 waiters for the whole beach, you have to wait for your drink really long or go to the swimming pool bar and then wait there, really irritating

4. To stay on the grass near the beach get up at 7 in the morning and the choice will not be great, if you want the real choice than earlier

5. Evenings - animation shows -very poor, if you are lucky to visit one, 2 days there were none,no entertainment outdoors (only once kakaoke) or in the hall, no even music, people just entertain themselves by sitting, talking and drinking. Of course we knew there is no disco in the hotel, but not even some light music or piano players, just dreadfull calmness and mobiles ringing songs on the tables.
If you are with a company it's ok,sit and play cards, but even then total silence is somehow not relaxing
So might it when you go to Averroes!

we have just returned from our stay at this superb hotel. As a family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers, i have to say i was delighted with every aspect of the hotel and its staff. After the hour and a half drive from the airport, we were greeted by the hotel reception staff who immediately brought us cold drinks and welcomed us to tunisia. We found the rooms perfectly adequate and spacious with good ensuite facities although ladies might want to bring their own hairdryer! (the hotel ones arent great). The rooms were cleaned every day and it was nice to see the little personal touches from the staff as they would make our towels into swans or have beautiful flowers placed on the beds each day. The bar staff never had to be called, always greeted us with smiles and very quickly got to know us by name...(a special mention to waliede, khalifa and the adorable slim).
The food was extremely good and every night we had a range of choices, freshly cooked pasta and european dishes as well as traditional tunisian cuisine and a full range of fresh salads and fruit. Beautiful pattisseries and freshly cooked crepes (thanks to Baligh) piled on the pounds but were truly worth it! The waiters again couldnt do enough and it was nice that they wanted to look after us and see our holiday was one to remember for the right reasons. The pool was extremely clean and plenty big enough for everyone to enjoy. Again the pool waiters were superb with nothing being too much trouble. Entertainment in the hotel is a little limited as the animation team have little to work with although they do put in a lot of effort and make the most of what they have. I did feel that the entertainment would be better held in the main bar area rather than the room set out for it as more people would join in. The animation staff are brilliant throughout the day with their pool aerobics, volley ball, water polo and various little games. All in all i would definately visit this hotel again. The staff here made our trip to Tunisia extremely enjoyable and i would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting brilliant value for money as well as a very friendly atmosphere.
one thing tho....to all who stay,,,PLEASE PLEASE take an apple or 2 in the evening and give it to the ponies outside the hotel. The gentlemen who own them dont mind and the ponies really appreciate a treat as they are quite thin. Thankyou!!

First of all dont be put of by the bad reviews, i read all of them before i went and i was very surpised at how different it actually is!

The Hotel was lovely, rooms were big and spacious, would highly recommened getting a sea view, we were up on the 4th floor and the view was fantatsic! Air conditioning worked well and cools you down at night. Maids came every day and sometimes left towels in the shape of a swan etc on the bed, very cute!

The Staff were very friendly and could not help you enough. The waiters at the restaurant are lovely and really make you feel welcome, they knew what drink we liked and had it ready before we sat down. You can tip the staff as they really appricate it and remember they dont get paid much! You may receive something on your table if you do however..nice flowers in the shape of a love heart etc.

The food was ok, you would get a bit fed up with it if you were staying 2 weeks. i found the food good, lots of pasta, salads, bread, meat, fish to have for lunch and dinner. Also breakfast was good, a lot of variety. You have to have the pancakes, they are the best!!!

The animation team were good, again very friendly and not too pushy, they asked us if we wanted to play games and we said no and they left us alone for the day. You can help but sing along to their catchy songs though!!

There are not many shops in the hotel only a jewellery shop and a newsagents, but you only have to walk down the road to get mobbed by the tourist shops!!

The Pool was lovely, its was cold but a nice relief after getting hot in the sun. Yes you do have to get up early to get the best sunbeds, but its worth it! The beach is lovely aswell, sandy and nice to walk on. However be warned do not take anything from the people on the beach who try to sell you random fruits, nuts etc!

There is a market which happens in the hotel on a saturday which is good as you wont need to go into the town to get souviners etc but make sure they dont rip you off!!

We did not have the free meal at the itialian or the free turkish massage so wont comment on those!

I would highly recommened this hotel to anyone who wants to get away and relax in the sunshine by the beach. Its a fantastic hotel and dont be put off by what you read!!

“love it”

we are a couple in early 20s, loved this hotel.
Not much outside the hotel in yasmine hammamet however if what you are after is a relaxing chill out lazy time then this place is perfect. This hotel has added bonus of being one of just a few in resort directly on the beach,

The ALL INC option is great with all drinks and food - at the buffet, the snack bar and the a la carte once per week. The pool bar has waiter service who operate the beach area too.
Heard a few complaints about the food not being 'English enough' however we filled our boots everynight, there was always something different. from mashed potato to fried chicken to shepherds pie. Always pasta, pizza, rice and chips.
There is also a 'DINE AROUND' offer where you can eat in any of 3 other Iberostar a la cartes in the resort.. so if you HATE the buffet you can still have up to 8 free a la cartes in a 2 wk break! we only tried the Mexican in the Chich Khan, it was excellent that it was all free.
Staff very friendly and make a real effort to get to know you and they remember you.. there is a little table set up for cocktails every night in the lobby bar.. the waiter there is great.. we tipped him a dinar (about 40p) every so often and he always brought us over our 'usual' as soon as we walked in the bar and made effort with flowers and big glasses.
Similarly if you sit in the same table area every night you generally get the same waiter who starts to know your drink choice and has it ready as soon as you sit down and also decorates your table with flowers.

Weather - we went 4th June for 2 weeks and had 2 days of storms.. the second week was stunning though.

Activities- Animation team are good fun. Always try to get you involved but are quite happy when you say no if youre not interested. Try the aqua gym.. its good fun.
We did PARASCENDING on beach.. beware of this. although it is quite cheap in comparison to other hol resorts they still try and rip you off in terms of tips eg. we paid 50dinar,, the guy who sold it to us wrote on our ticket we paid 30...therefore keeping the 20 dinar for himself. They also use the 'no change' trick to round your prices up.. would recommend only bringing how much you are prepared to pay as they are obviously willing to barter.
We also went on the PIRATE SHIP excursion sold by Amor in the hotel... this was not great for adults,.the ship was packed out..with just a small area of bench to sit on.. the 'pirates' just didnt leave you alone, grabbing you for pictures and trying to sell memorabilia constantly.

Watch out for the kids handing out flowers on the promenade.. they insist its free and force them on you.. if you take one they chase you down the street for a tip.
Also in the Medina and on the street they are very insistent you 'come look in my shop' I dont like this style and much prefer browsing at my own leisure so that put me off buying anything.

Dont bring any football tops... the staff in the hotel will see you wearing it and ask you every day to leave it for them.. at first we thought they were joking.. but no theyre quite insistent.

Overall a fantastic holiday and am very jealous of anyone heading there this summer.

Me and my wife have just returned to Portugal from holidays in Tunisia. We made a circuit across the country having the Averroes as our "base camp" . Excelente team, very clean, great food choice, and beautiful beach just outside your room, all you need for your vacations. I have to say that I chose this hotel in my travel agency based on the critics on this website and I didn´t had any problems.
Highly recommendable
