“not rich enough to make bad choices”

This is the first poor review that I have submitted in over 1-year so appologies in advance.

There is a saying that 'I am not wealthy enough to choose the cheapest product or service...becuase of the time and extra money needed to spend...to try and put it right' and it is the same with holidays and only X weeks of vacation per year.

And this hotel fits into the above catagory.

The 2 major disapointments range from the age of the hotel and the fixture and fittings that needed a constant maintenance team working on them...from tiles around the swimming pool to dining room chairs.
And secondly the poor quality of food where quantity over quality is definitely the policy of the hotel range. Alternative choices of restaurants outside the hotel grounds are unfortunately also minimal.

On the positive side, the entertainment guys work hard, the various nationalities (predominantly Arab guests) all get on well so you can definitely survive.

But, if I was to return to Tunisia, then I would spend a little bit more, and return to Riu ClubHotel Bellevue Park near Sousse which definitely offers better value for money.

“We enjoyed it”

My girlfriend and i stayed at the Sol Azure for a week half board june 08, We have stayed before at the hotel last year, The hotel is slightly dated to UK standards but to Tunisia standards pretty good, If you talk to workers and make a effort with all the staff you can really have a good laugh and great service with them ,Of course a couple of tips helps even more, The food on site is of a great standard but very similiar to my taste, Going to one of the local restaurants is also a very good experience to have, never had one complaint .The pool area is a excellent set up and if you talk to the poolman he will leave his books out on your sunbeds claiming them, much more civialised approach than our european neighbours .You will find the a high amount of russian / german women come to find there tunisian delight which we found hilarious. The beach is nice with loads of space / loungers / parasol water clear blue and clean ,didnt see any hawkers , It was fairly quiet there only 200 guests. The animation team try but for me are limited . There was young familys ,Older couples not many of the drinkers generation obviously theres plenty for all if you ask around, But we like that , we just wanted sun and peace and thats exactly what we got,The rooms are basic furniture wise but the bathroom is good , hair dryer in there . Maids are very good so tip well, I like tunisia its a really cultural experience plus its fairly cheap to barter, be prepared to its fun.The only downside for me to this hotel is the manners of the other guests, Rude covers that. And also the dinner service in the evening, Nice big dining room but no chance of a bit of romantic times, A russian lady with 3 huge plates of food eating a lettice leaf and leaving the rest is a annoyance, Thats the only down side but there you go.

“Don't mention the war”

My wife and I, son and daughter (both teenagers) spent a week there at the end of October 2007 and must say the overall consensus was very good. The staff particularly the room maid and buffet receptionist could not have been more pleasant and efficient not to mention the currency exchange man at reception. The food was excellent and my major gripe was the over zealous nature at buffet meal times of one nationality in particular suffice to say don't mention the war. They were rude and unfriendly and had I not been reluctant to spoil our holiday I would have confronted them on at least two occasions.
The bar staff were very pleasant and I was glad to tip them at all times. The entertainment staff were a little pushy and really not that talented playing mostly on the flirting routine with the female visitors, very dated.
Finally the overall experience was very good, but the Monastir airport is a disgrace. Three (3) euro for a Mars Bar and no paper in the toilets, it doesn't let you forget that you are in another continent.

“Hotel Sol Azur Beech Congess”

Sol Azur Beach Hotel

We spent Easter 2007 in this Hotel in Hammamet. There was myself and my two daughters, 6 & 8. Although it was quiet there, we found the hotel very nice. Very clean. Beautiful view of the pool and med. The pool was great with the beach just down the steps. We stayed HB and I have to say I looked forward to the evening meals there was huge variety, perfectly cooked and displayed. Breakfast was a little sparse, but there was a guy who made fresh crepes every morning. Kids loved it.
Hammamet is a buisy little town, not a whole lot to see but we mainly stayed in the Hotel pool and beach area. Also you can use the amenities of the other two sister hotels, Bel Azur and forget the name of the other one. But all very nice. We took a pirate ship half day tour, very enjoyable.
Weather was perfect. I would go there again as long as you keep to the hotel complex, as the standard of life outside is not the same as in Europe. But definitely the thumbs up from us.

“Absolutely fantastic!!”

Sol Azur Beach Hotel

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Sol Azur Hotel in Hammamet from 09.09.07 to 16.09.07. We were somewhat apprehensive about our holiday after having read some of the comments on this website and were surprised to find that our experience of the hotel was very different to that of others. The staff were dedicated, friendly and constantly trying to ensure that our stay was as comfortable as possible, particularly the animation team who always tried to get everyone involved in the activities around the complex both during the day and at night and were a credit to the hotel! The food in both the poolside bar at lunchtime and in the restaurant in the evenings was beautiful (menu selection at lunch at an additional cost and buffet style menu at dinner). There was a bit of a scrumdown at the evening meal so we found it better to go along to this later (around half eight) to avoid this!! Our room contained everything we needed (hairdryer, fridge, safe, tv, telephone) and the view from our room was magnificent, overlooking both the pool and the beach. The only downside to the holiday was having to share a table with other couples at dinner but that was a very small price to pay for such a fantastic week. Best holiday of my life!! P.S. if you get the chance to do the two-day Safari trip to the Sahara desert don't pass this up as it is the experience of a lifetime!
