“Compact Suites in Convenient Location”

TownePlace Suites Albany

4 of 5 stars
Philadelphia
Dec 31, 2007

Great location for university, government, meeting or business travel. If driving, get good directions as the hotel can be tricky to find. Townplace Suites consist of a large room with a built in kitchen - a stretch to call this a suite. Pricing is budget as are the materials used to built the hotel. Room doors were scuffed and hallways were in need of vacumming. Housekeeping is on request and not every day -- our housekeeper was excellent and even provided extra service above and beyond. Room price includes a breakfast buffet - better than average. Lobby has internet access and a small convenience shop.

“Fantastic Hotel, Fantastic Price”

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past two years, as my daughter goes to SUNY Albany, which is right across the street. I have NEVER once been disappointed in its cleanliness, staff friendliness, or great value for the cost. I usually stay in one of their 2 bedroom suites, and my whole family enjoys the stay. The rooms are spacious, the amenities, such as continental breakfast, free internet wireless, flat screen TV, all add up to make this hotel by far the best value I've experienced.

“Filthy - not your usual Towneplace Suites”

TownePlace Suites Albany

We've stayed at Towneplace Suites all over the country and I have to say I was surprised by this one. It was dirty and lower end.

Right away I was taken aback by the lobby which normally has a standard look - this one reminded me of a burger king from the 1970s.

When we walked down the hallway to our room I knew we were in trouble as the doors for EVERY room were dirty. Not a good sign.

Every wall and door surface in our room was dirty with splats of who knows what. The most disgusting was the bits of old food and other dirt on various surfaces in the kitchen and the bathroom door which was filthy particularly around the handle - not so nice to see a large dark brown smudge of ?? there. Really shoddy cleaning.

The other difference at this Towneplace Suites is that cabinets and counters in the bathroom and kitchen are about the cheapest around. Normally they use granite counters but here it was some really cheap synthetic material and did not even look professionally installed. There was rotting areas along the edges in the bathroom from water damage. It gave the whole place a low end feeling. Yucky!

The furniture and carpeting though was the same stuff as at all Towneplace Suites.

They also cut corners in other ways. For instance normally at Towneplace Suites they provide a laundry basket in your room to carry your stuff around - not here, we had to carry our laundry in our suitecase. And usually they provide the laundry detergent for free, but here you have to buy it. Just more of a hassle.

I rely on Towneplace Suites for a certain standard of cleanliness, that's why we always stay there but I wouldn't stay here again at all. It was unpleasant.

“Great Stay”

TownePlace Suites Albany

We reserved a great rate 2 months ago on Marriott website for Oct 12 for 2 nights. No construction anymore at the hotel. The office was clearly noted and Ashley checked us in very quickly. Even our first name with last initial was noted on the desk. We arrived at our room and it was spotless. I stayed close to this hotel and hair all over that room. This room was so comfortable and clean. We actually used the full kitchen and nothing went wrong. The breakfast in the morning was great. You could chose from self made belgian waffles, french toast bagels, muffins, hard boiled eggs, cereals, 4 juices and coffee/hot chocolate/tea. There is also free internet and coffee/teal/hot chocolate at all times in the lobby.Housekeeping was available and responsive to our needs. The bed was soooooo comfortable as was the sofa bed for my little one.
One minor problem was when the power went out in the afternoon for almost 2 hrs. It was the entire block on our side. The staff was visible with flash lights and assisting in getting into the rooms since the doors locks did not work.
Their handling of the situation was top notch. Check out with William was quick and efficient. Could not have picked a better hotel this time. There was no site of old carpeting or furniture. Everything was clean, spotless and in proper running order in the kitchen.

“Good sized rooms for families”

TownePlace Suites Albany

3 of 5 stars
St. Paul, MN

My family stayed at the TownePlace Suites on June15, 2007. Since we have four children, we reserved a family suite. First, the TownePlace is comprised of two unattached buildings, and due to construction/remodeling of the lobby, it was difficult finding the temporary hotel office to check in. The check in person (Jasmine) was very responsive to all of my questions and provided a listing of restaurants in the area. We stayed in a family suite on the first floor of building A. The room was quite large with two separate queen bedrooms and a queen pullout sofa sleeper, two TVs and each room had its own air conditioning unit. It also had a nice sized kitchen (full size refrigerator, stove/oven and sink, etc.). Since we had been traveling for a week, we used their laundry facilities (three washers, four dryers) which worked well. Overall, the size of the room was good for larger families.
Due to the construction, the outdoor pool was closed. Also the security door to the building near our room did not latch and close securely. The breakfast was standard continental fare with breads, cereals, waffles, hard boiled eggs, juice, coffee and milk, etc. Check out was uneventful, although we had to check out at the temporary office versus an express checkout. Not a bad place and would be better if the construction had been finished.
