Business serviceWe stayed at the Sanur Beach Hotel and booked through Mercury Direct who are excellent. The hotel had various restaurants, which were all good and I would find it difficult to fault this hotel in any way. The staff were friendly and the rooms were spotless. We stopped off in Kuala Lumpur on the way out and Dohar on the return journey. Dohar does not have a lot to recommend it, but it does break the journey. I would certainly book with Mercury again as we went to Mauritius with them to the Silver Beach Hotel, which we also thoroughly enjoyed.

Business serviceWe (my wife, myself, plus my early 20s daughter and boyfriend) stayed at this hotel in early December 2007. It proved a good choice.
The hotel itself has an air of slightly faded grandeur. Rooms are reasonably spacious and nice, but not top-notch in terms of decor or facilities. Service is friendly and helpful, but a bit sluggish. F & B outlets (notably breakfast) are quite nice with good surroundings (views of pools/beach), but the food is nothing to write home about.
Where the hotel particularly scores is location. Both internal: the grounds, swimming pool and beach immediately in front are very nice. And external: very handy to walk to a nice clump of restaurants and shops nearby, which reflect Sanur's character - with a bit of shopping and night life, but (thankfully for us!) nowhere near as hectic or intense as Kuta or its environs. Sanur is also well located for longer trips either North and East to Ubud, Denpasar and beyond; or West to Kuta, Nusa Dua and so on. You can also do diving, including off Nusa Penida - not spectacular (Mola Mola season apart), but not bad.
All in all, the hotel is good value for what you get. We bought on the Internet via (I think) hotels.com, and got a very good deal.
Finally, a couple of local tips:-
- Do not take the hotel shuttle from or to the airport. Taxis (or a longer term driver, if you want one) are quite a bit cheaper, and quicker and more convenient.
- Do visit the 'Cat & Fiddle', located by the entrance to the hotel. Its Irish pub format (complete with Indonesian Irish band!) may seem contrived, but both the bands and food are good!

ServiceMy girlfriend and I stayed at the Sanur beach hotel for nine nights. The hotel was spotless clean, with well furnished rooms, fantastic staff and a very well equiped gym.On the down side there were not enough loungers around the pool and beach and if you were not prepared to get up at 7.30 to stake your claim on one then you lost out, considering that hotel was only 35% full.
Breakfast was ok but nothing special,if you like tea at breakfast bring some teabags with you as the hotel tea was week as .... The hotel had two good quality restaurants which were not all that much more expensive then the restaurants along Sanur.
The hotel is 25 years old but it is well maintained and has beautiful mature gardens. We found that the hotel was very popular with retired Dutch people who made up the bulk of the hotel guests.
Sanur is a very quite and relaxing area and most shops and bars close down around 10.30pm but is only 20 minutes away from Kuta which is a bit more lively if you like that and will cost you about £3 in a taxi each way.
Bali is a beatuiful island to visit and for british tourists it is very cheap as the pound is very strong against the rupee. In the year 2000 the Rupee was worth 5000 to one pound in 2007 it is worth
17500 to the pound.
The Sanur beach hotel was relaxing and good quality but if you are looking for something a bit more luxurious go for the hotel next door The Puri Santani, looked in there with envy each time I passed it.
One last word of caution,Bali is a long way away from the UK,if you are a poor sleeper on areoplanes like me book a stop over in Dubai or Bangkok you wont regret it.
Stayed at this hotel for five nights with family. The first three nights were good but the front desk treated us very poorly. They were suspicous of us leaving without paying, which was, needless to say, very embarassing and extremely aggrovating. Of course they had been given credit card information.
The rooms were good, as was room service staff.
The beach was shallow and not swimmable. But the two pools were nice.
I'd look for another hotel before settling for this again.
