We have just returned from a week's stay at the Aurangabad, India. The city is great with a lovely weather and hundreds of attractions to visit. We visited Ellora caves, Shirdi, Balaji temple, Shani Shignapore, Bhagramaroti, Bibi ka Maqbara...but the best place that we enjoyed were the 26 Ajanta Caves.
They are absolutely breathtaking. The sculptures are so exquisite, and the paintings are simply mind-blowing. One has to see them with their own eyes to believe them. Add to it, the semi circular positioning of the caves, and the fact that they were next to each other, unlike Ellora caves. Although Ellora caves have bigger and better sculpture, you can’t beat the whole atmosphere of Ajanta. Every painting is worth a million dollars - you just wish to keep watching and admiring the frescoes.
Word of advice - Video filming and cameras with flash are not allowed inside the caves. So, take cameras that work without a flash to click pictures inside the caves. To take a video, shoot it from outside the caves - although you may not get everything, but you can shoot a lot from the entrance to the caves - which is enough for a memory.
All in all, Ajanta caves are an exhilarating experience.
