“Good restaurant by the lake”

We stayed 2 nights in Fort House Hotel. On the first night, we stayed at the new wing with AC, while the room is clean, the floor wax had very strong smell and made it a little inconvenient. As usual, the bed is also a bit hard, i think this is very common in india.

On the second night, we opted to transfer to the old wing and got a non-AC room. Although looking a bit older than the new wing room, I feel it has more character and surprisingly, it was very cool in the evening.

The staff had been very helpful and accomodating. in fact too accomodating that they forgot to collect payment from us on our first night. :) The free breakfast is so-so, nothing fancy nor spectacular....but the hotel has a very good seafood restaurant by the lake. Food is very delicious and even done in tasteful presentation, which i didn't expect from a relatively small hotel.

The hotel is however a bit far from the tourist spots, about 10-15 mins walk. I say far since i saw several hotels located right smack in the tourist area. But if u don't mind walking, it's not such a big issue.

A wonderful place! My wife and I stayed in beautiful Fort House for 4 days in June. We loved the nature friendly owners and the beautiful atmosphere of the hotel. We did not book the room in advance, since it was Monsoon season time we could get rooms without booking in advance. They have clean and colourful rooms and the hotel has a feeling of homeliness.. They have a good sea food restaurant and tables near the waterside. They serve food which is not like the rest of the restaurants, they serve very special food but there are a lot of other eating places around Fort House which is walking distance. The mosque nearby is a little loud in the morning hours but India is loud! This is a place for relaxed travellers, you will have a nice stay! Sadly we had only 6 days in South India this time, but we are coming to Kerala for at least 3 weeks next year!

“A special play in Cochin”

Fort House is a small hotel close to the bus station and to the boat station in Cochin. So it is easy to get to other parts of Cochin from here. The rooms have simple furniture and are fairly clean. One shouldn’t be expecting comforts like television and telephones in the rooms. Good seafood served at the waterfront is what one can look forward to. The management is helpful, they took me to the best textile markets in Cochin. I was there for 4 nights and enjoyed my stay there. They organize cultural programs at the hotel, it was a part of a local festival, I made some beautiful photographs there.

“A marvellous stay”

A very Beautiful place! It is amazing that such a place so full of charm and green exists on the "spice street"! I was there with my wife and son. It was the best place we stayed in Kerala, we stayed in their new building. The rooms and toilets are simple and clean, but the room service cleans the room only if you ask them to, so remember to tell them when you need the rooms to be cleaned.

They have a very good seafood restaurant, excellent food! Their service is a little unprofessional but very homely. They have a beautiful water front where we watched the sun set every evening! We stayed there for a week and it was marvellous.

I recommend Fort House to travellers looking for clean, homely, charming hotels.

“What a dump”

We had booked for two stays on this visit to Kerala.
I had requested that we be given a room in the old original block but on arrival was told that they had decided to change my booking to the new block. I refused and that started the issue with the owners / management. I eventually got placed in the intermediate block of so called environmentally friendly units but as stated by others the airconditioning made such a racket that sleep was almost impossible as did the constant scrapping of rodents in the ceiling space. The walls were so thin that when the couple in the next room had a dispute we felt that we were in there with them and when the actual making up and love making started it was a bit embaressing. When breakfast was taken on the next morning and following it was one of everything on order and if you wanted more or anything else it was please pay. I eventually lost patience with the owners and requested of my travel agent that he move me but as payment was made up front this was not possible as the owners would not budge.
Now to the second stay for our last two days in Kerala before flying back to Scotland. The room we were given was in the new block this time and it took my wife and myself 3 hours to kill all the mosquitoes in the room and a further hour to get one of the staff to supply a plug-in killer for the room. On both occassions the rooms were not cleaned to an acceptable standard and to get either fresh bedding or towels or the room cleanned you had to make a request and even then it was dubious whether anthying would be done. There was on both occassions little or no water - hot from the shower. There was building rubble all over the site.
The management are the worst I've come across in over 30 years travelling. We stayed in 9 other hotels on this trip and all were either good or excellent.
The food was not bad but the service was completely useless.
We did eat there for lunch on the 1st day but after that it was elswhere where we could get good seafood at a reasonable price.

All in all the best thing that could happen to the Fort House is demolition.
