“Stay at home!”

Grand Plaza Resort

We have just returned from the Grand Plaza Resort . After reading some of the bad reviews before we went I had convinced myself these reviews were from people that just liked to moan about everything. Oh no, these people were completly right.
The Hotel building and grounds are lovely but it's what's inside that's not! This is the only place we have ended up with food poisoning. We were ripped off £27.50 by the hotel pharmacy for pills which we later found out should have been 0.50p ! We lived off bread and lemonade for 5 days until we saw birds in the dining room eating the bread. After that we went hungry for the last day.
You can't relax by the pool as the salon/ massage staff constantly hassle you. I had my bikini bottoms pulled down by one wanting to give me a free trial massage. This would have been classed as sexual assault in this country! Warning , don't let them anywhere near you. The older massause is o.k but the young blokes are all just out to perv over the women.
There is no entertainment for the English here. Everthing is in Italian/ Russian so we couldn't join in anything. There is a kids club but again unless your small children understand Italian they might not be able to join in!
Don't fall for the scam by the bell boy, if you tip him he will tell you that he cant spend English coins (which is rubbish) and ask you for a £10 note and try to give you a £5 note in return. Not only does he want to make £5 out of you but he wanted to keep the original £2 we gave him. We had to argue with him and practically throw him out of our room.
This is the worst holiday we have ever had, it is supposed to be 5 star but is more like 2/3. Even on all inclusive you have to pay for expresso coffee and orange juice if you want them at breakfast. Also the bar in the main reception is not included and everything here has to be paid for. The dining room at the front of the hotel was the best one to use as it was not as manic as the others. Not as many Russians pushing you out the way to get to the food! We were not quite so eager to get to it!
One good thing though, the fish are amazing. It was like looking into an aquarium when you went onto the pier. Warning though, you are not allowed to go into the sea off of the beach as there are so many coral beds that you could damage. If you want to snorkle, go in off of the pier and wear something on your feet as we saw people cut to bits from the coral.
I have emailed Thomsas Cook and urged them to remove this hotel from their brochure . It is not for the English holiday tourist.

“Definetly not a 5Star and if you want to lose weight go here !!!”

When you arrive at this hotel you get the idea of grandeur and that you are getting what you paid for. But when you start looking closer its no better than a Travel Inn in England. The grounds are beautiful and so is the swimming pool. it is relaxing when your not being ill. However the staff from the beauty area and hair salon constantly harrass you and will not take no for an answer. We did use the massage facilities before we became ill and it was very nice and relaxing. They can also be very suggestive, maybe this is due to the lack of women in the hotels or just this resort. if you look in the summer brochure of many of the descriptions on this hotel it will now class it as a 4Star which i would say that your even pushed for this. Definetly not a 5 star which we paid for.

The food is very repetitive and you believe it is fresh but we can assure you its not we were a party of 6 and only 1 of us wasnt ill. I am talking really ill too one of us had to take 20 immodium in 5 days. And one of us was still very ill up to 10 days after our return. You have to queue so much for the food it gets boring and if you can fight the russian the poles and god knows what else your ok. The Egyptians love the English as we are so polite so I would agree with others that if you treat them well they will look after you.

I would not go back to this hotel if i was paid to.

“Take no notice.....”

Grand Plaza Resort

Take no notice of some of the comments on this hotel.... We had booked the Grand Plaza and was initially put off by some of the reviews...they are rubbish!!! We were very impressed upon arrival at the size of the place, it is literally huge. Very friendly staff.. cases were taken straight to our room with the bell boy who also insisted on carrying our hand luggage aswell!! Room very clean and all rooms overlook the sea as it is designed that way in a sort of horseshoe. Beds and towels changed every day..best way forward is to leave a small tip whether it be for service in restaurant or for room boy etc.
Need to haggle for everything though, even in hotel shops...also massages available round the pool area. Haggle there aswell as we saved £20 on first price offered!! expect to pay around £15 each, excellent full body massage!!
One thing to mention that we didn't like was not everything is free on the complex.. fresh orange juice near pool and in restaurant and ice creams are not free. Also certain bars are not free for drinks either. However you may decide to pay as if you have the local spirits available which are free, they are likely to strip your stomach wall as it basically tastes like paint stripper!! The Russians didnt seem to mind this at all however! Lots of Italians here mainly, also 20% Russians, night life limited and staff speak little english but generally fluent italian. Watch out for the touts they are like bees round a honey pot and wont leave you alone AT ALL! In the end you have to be rude to get rid of them especially if you visit Narm Bay or Sharm old town. Shuttle leaves hotel straight into these places costing about £3 each way per person. Overall we would thoroughly reccommend this hotel and have done already to family flying out in June. Quick ' hi ' to Amy and Sarah who we met in the bar one night. Good Luck with your wedding Amy and best wishes to you both xx

We booked this resort at the last minute and were quite concerned by some of the comments we had read about this hotel. Fortunately these were not the view we had and we were very pleased we booked this hotel. It was just what we wanted, a place to relax in the sun and read a book in picturesque surroundings.
The snorkling was superb with amazing coloured fish and coral, but be aware of the occasional jellyfish. The pools were not heated so a bit chilly at first but when the temperature builds up they are very welcome.
Plenty of sunbeds and shelter from the sun with courtesy towels, no getting up early to 'bag' your sunbeds!
Mainly Italian and Ukraines but all seemed pleasant enough, we met some English people who were good fun but a pity there wasn't any children the same age as our 13 year old son.
We had some daily hassle from the chaps trying to sell diving, beauty treatments, massage etc but they went away when you politely said 'no thank you'. All the staff were very friendly and were always willing to help with your requests.
The room was spotless and cleaned daily to a high standard. The grounds and public areas were also clean and spacious.
The food was plentiful, in fact it was possible to eat and drink all day if you wanted. There was a good variety in the three restaurants and very fresh and well presented.
Nothing really going on in the evening except for very poor standard children's entertainment from the Italian animation team and a disco that was empty.
Only one real down side, it seemed a couple of days aeroplanes flew overhead! However this did not detract from a really good holiday.

We returned from the Grand Plaza on 8th April and do not really have anything bad to say about the hotel. It is spotless and the staff are more than helpful.

The rooms are very clean and the cleaner checks with you on your first day whch time you would like your room cleaned every day so you are not disturbed by them knocking at your door. They do a great job and even returned my partners wristband that got picked up with the dirty towels.

The grounds of the hotel are beautiful with plenty of sunbeds. It is true that the majority of the people at the hotel are not English but I don't see why this is a problem. There is a bit of hassle around the pool but if you say you are not interested they will not take offence and are just as friendly.

There is a great amount of food to choose from every day and if you do want to eat out, Naama Bay has lots of lovely places to eat.

We booked through XL and the Rep at the hotel was very helpful and friendly.

I can honestly say that we would go back tomorrow.
