I have just been back home a week after staying at the Baron Palms with my family and friends, and I am now longing to go back.
We arrived on a Sunday around 7pm to be greeted by welcoming reception staff and the bell boys. It took about 15 minutes to get booked in and were then directed to our rooms. The cases were up to us shortly after.
Our triple room was fine, basic but very clean. We had a road view but that didn't really bother us because we spend very little time in the room whilst on holiday, we like to make the most of the days and evenings. We had two bathrooms, the TV Channels were good, hair dryer ok and if you require more coat hangers just ask house keeping. Don't bother with the mini bar -it is expensive! Just use it to keep your water cool.
The meals although not five star were great. There is plenty to choose from in the main Tiran Restaurant. We also ate at the Paradise Pool Bar in the evening which was lovely (you have to book this the day before you wish to go). We tried the Indian restaurant on the beach, this is not AI but is subsidised. Although the chefs did their uttermost to please us, the curry was too salty, but never mind. We tried the Indian at the Camel Hotel in town, which I would thoroughly recommend.
The Beach Bar did sandwiches daily which we had on a few occassions.
Take the opportunity to build up on your water bottles at lunch and dinner.
The pool area was lovely and like everywhere else spotlessly clean. Though we did get fed up with lining up in a morning to get a sunbed. I do think that the Hotel should have a sun lounger policy in that if it is not used within two hours of the towel being placed, the towel should be removed. Many people would not show up until late afternoon, the time when beds become free anyway.
We eventually opted for the beach which was fantastic. Plenty of sunbeds, the Beach Bar Guys were brilliant, Donny Osmond, Tom Cruise and the others. Snorkling is a must, you will never see anything like it!. Bobos speed boat trip is also a must, it was lovely to see a family of Dolphins in their own environment.
You get pestered by the shop keepers on the Baron Boulevard and also beach traders, but you just have to smile, wave and say no thank you or barter if you wish to purchase something. Eventually they get to know you and are very friendly, at the end of the day they are trying to earn a wage.
Evenings r quiet, most evenings they have a duet in the Verander Bar which is ok. There is also the pianno bar. The Now & ZEN Disco goes on until 2a.m. but is only AI 10pm to 11pm. They play dance music to which the Russians dance very enthusiastically!!! It is a scream!
The alchoholic drinks are not brilliant, we ended up paying for branded drinks and better quality wine. The first week was ok, but you can only drink so much of the local wine and vodka and coke. I did think that they needed to review the quality of the drinks.
There was not agreat deal of outside seating, which was a pity. There was a large area of wasted space outside the main restuarant, I thought that this could have accommodated some tables and chairs. But I can't really complain as we enjoyed every evening there.
All in all, we had a very good relaxing holiday. We could not fault the service, the staff were excellent, especially in the Beach Bar, Verander Bar and around the pool. We had a few niggles, but it was good value for money and you don't have to let things get on top of you- life is too short!!
