“Grand to say the least - I loved it”

Grand Rotana Resort & Spa

I find it hard to believe that there are people out there that could fault this hotel. I have been back twice and plan to go again next year. The hotel is colourful and bright, everything is well maintained. I found the hotel reception and bell boys exceptional, especially Ahmed the bellboy, he went out of his way to make sure everything went smoothly for me and my friend. The room are bright and clean with baths and showers. The pool is large and clean and the sun loungers are of a high quality, nothing shabby at the Grand Rotana. Although the beach is small, it is similar to mosh of the hotels in egypt, and is kept clean and tidy. The jetty is also excellent if you enjoy snokelling etc. The resturants are excellent. Dont listen to the negative comments about the food in Ramses, as there is such a large selection. Different meats, fish, salad, bread pastas, fruit, veg etc. Ice cream, and traditional egyptian afters are also available. I was made to feel like royalty at this hotel. During the baking heat, the odd pool/Bar memeber would come round with cooling face towels, and on the odd accasion fruit on sticks etc. They really cant do enough for you. I think that the people who wrote bad comments about this hotel must have been very unlucky as we discussed the hotel wih other people who had visited and with people who were on vacation when we were, and everyone said how happy they were with theie experience at the Grand Rotana.
I cant wait to return!

“Not a "Grand" hotel”

Grand Rotana Resort & Spa

May 5, 2008
0/1 found this review helpful

We are a couple from Bulgaria. 27/40 years old.
Just came back after a week in the "grand" Rotana. This was our second trip to Egypt after a vacation in El Ghouna, last October. I'll try to briefly summarize my view on this hotel:
Bad:
- This hotel was build in 2005 but lobby looks already depreciated, especially furnitures, so you start wondering just from the beginning if this is the right hotel.
- Not a friendly and helpful staff at front desk. They smile only if they see a busty blond girl coming. At arrival I needed to call reception 2 times to get our luggage to the room and finally went back to reception to find it staying there. At the end of our stay we were left with no takeaway breakfast for our early check out, because at 8.30 PM they told us that already gave a list to the restaurant for tomorrows breakfast packages and it is not possible to change it ... it's funny how many hours they need to prepare 2 sandwiches...
- Housekeeping: first day they left us without any towels with the excuse that they will bring towels later because they don't have any clean now. When we came from the beach no towels were in the room. After 3 calls to the housekeeping the towels came, but first they brought 1 and after another 1.30 hours, the second one. I assume this is trick to get a tip, as I read for this problem in some of the other reviews for this hotel. I left a tip next morning and everything went back to normal.
- I almost burned my left feet, when trying to take a shower, because a boiling water came out from the cold water crane of the shower. In few minutes all the bathroom was in steam, including coming from the toilet. After my second call to reception, 2 guys came to fix the problem. They turned some switches in the corridor and in about 30 min. a normal cold water was running in the bathroom. No any excuses at all ... Of course big signs on the main alleys are warning the guests that the hotel management can't be held responsible for anything that may happen here, for any reason - injuries, thefts, even fatalities ... so what to complain about :)
- Food: I like the Arabic food, but what was served in the main restaurant Ramses, especially for dinner was not tasty at all. Very limited choice fruits. We went to the Old market in town to buy some exceptional fruits at very low price - strawberries, apricots, apples.
- Guests are mainly Russians, no bad feeling at all, but sometimes they are very loud on the beach. Few times we needed to move to the far end of the beach in order to escape from this noise. Despite that we met a lovely Russian young couple and we had good time snorkeling with them.
- Room: average, not very large, only Arabic TV channels, depreciated furniture.
Good:
- Generally clean hotel, having in mind the Egypt standards
- Very beautiful house reef, with a lot of fish.
- Silk Road restaurant
- Good and large pool
- Well maintained gardens and beach area.
- Nice view from the room - 3rd floor of the "Premier Beach front" building
I hope this info will be helpful.

“Overall A Superb Holiday”

Grand Rotana Resort & Spa

Apr 29, 2008

Stayed at the Grand Rotana Resort and Spa April 2008 for 1 week, travelling with my Husband and our two sons aged 7 and 1. Upon arrival at the hotel we were greeted with a warm smile, cold scented hand towels and some delicious fruit tea - so far so good. We were then told we had been upgraded and would we be ok with twin beds? I replied as long as we can put them together and that there was a cot and bed in the room for our sons, at which the response given was of course!
We were taken to our room but unfortunately there was no seperate bed for my 7 year old or a cot for my youngest. It then took a couple of hours to sort this situation out by which time it was 11pm, we were all exhausted and because I was so flustered I ended up tipping the porter guy 50 euros!!!

Anyhow the next day we woke up to brilliant sunshine and after a lovely breakfast spent a great day aound the fabulous pool. This then set the pattern for the rest of our stay.

This hotel is great for relaxing, the weather was superb, staff very friendly, and hotel kept very clean. We were on a b&b basis which I would recommend. Our friends were on hb basis but soon got very bored of the food on offer at the Ramses restaurant. We ate at the Mezzaluna. Silk Road and Palms Restaurants all of which were quite good. We only ate once at the buffet in the Ramses restaurant which we all found very uninspiring. The food is not overly expensive a lot less than you'd pay for the equivalent in the UK..I would really recommend the Grand Rotana, it's about a 10 minute taxi ride into Naama Bay which is worth a visit for a giggle.

Overall a great holiday and we would definately go back to Egypt and the Rotana!!

From the moment we arrived the staff seemed to be on a mission to make our stay a good one or they were looking for tips either way the result was an excellent holiday. The hotel itself was beautiful from its front desk to its beach front.Three seperate restuarants to cater for all styles and tastes also a good selection of rooms from the standard to the superior deluxe . The pool area was excellent with a large pool and two kids pools , with waiters to bring you anything you desire.Small tips go along way with the staff from holding poolside loungers to very attentive service. Our room was kept very clean thru out our stay with room service also available handy for the romantic nights in.Highly recommend this hotel.

“Suberb & Friendly”

Grand Rotana Resort & Spa

Apr 24, 2008

We have just returned from a week here - 16th-23rd April 2008.
Weather extremly hot (37-41%C) , and this hotel was not a disappointment.
Rooms are located in various 'buildings' around complex.
Alot of steps in some cases, so not very good if you are not good / unable with stairs.
Our Deluxe Seaview Room was indeed that. Aircon working when required and even had a clean during our stay.
It had a balcony which we could both lie on if we wanted.
Rooms cleaned everyday, - including sheets & Towels most days.
Food on Half Board was a Buffet affair with plenty of choice, and the drinks we had around hotel were not too expensive either unless you went for a Liqueer.
The Staff were always courteous and friendly throughout, and they are cleaning all parts of the hotel continually, so nothing is left.
This Hotel has a Spa, which is Air Con. and has views out onto the Red Sea.
The massive pool is clean too and although its slightly difficult to get a sunbed, unless your up really early, there are plenty from around 3pm when everyone has had enough, and the sun is much more tenable.
They have a small Bank in the hotel, and you can change your £'s easy and they give a good rate too. !
The only really bad points if you were to push me, was that having a drink in the Sea bar in the evening you are likely to get eaten by mosquitos.
There can be a smell of drains around the Roman Theatre at times, but not excessive.
We almost certainly will be returning. !!
