Everyone advises on beware of the beggers, so as this is a common factor i will start from the airport. The second you comeout of Sharm airport, you head towards the coaches about 4mins walk from the front doors. You will find that someone will 'help' you put your luggage on the coach and forcefully stick his hand out for money, which was not a good start 4 mins in to the holiday, its up to you if you want to give your money away or not.
The reps on the coach tryed to be funny *cough* on the ride to the hotel, but maybe it was me being tired and grotty at 2am.
Got to the hotel (and yes its on a very busy two lane each way main road and not a dual carridgeway) the hotel was beautiful, everytime we came in or out of the hotel people was always having their photos taken out side of it. Got to the check in desk and the reception had put me and my mrs in a room with another family with the same last name. Their answer to this was they thought we would like it that way. The receptionist didnt seem to hot on their english, they rest of the staff were fantastic on their english, i think they sould swap rolls around and put the most english speaking staff on front desk... anyway... after an hour they got us in the Ghazala-Beach (sister hotel) opposite (a pure german hotel) which we spent one night there (room was dreadful, but thats not this review).
Next day, the ghazala gardens (The G.G) found us a room after the former holiday makers had left, and the rooms had been cleaned, which was a standard nice room, equiv holiday inn uk style room + a mini bar which you pay for. When they realised the 'mess'up they did everything they could to accomodate us, also three days in came and found us with a £50 Thom. Cook voucher.
FOOD:
The food was superb, evening meal-meats were calved in front of you, fresh veg, fresh fish, soups, fresh breads, rolls, etc. The food standard was much better than a UK toby carvery. Candle lit tables and always tables available. The matradee will always move tables around (we saw) to accommodate big familes.
Breakfast was amazing, fresh scrambled eggs and omlets made in front of you... i reccomend the red onion and cheese omlette, i was there 7 days and had 16 of them at least. PS there is a toaster in the upstairs floor, which i only found out on the last day, and the food upstairs was MUCH more british oriantated.
Snacks and ice creams are always available from the central island. The portions were a little strange, ie the burger was literally the size of an OLD 50p coin, and give you literall 10 chips, but maybe thats because we come from a country of.... 'over eaters', if you want seconds just ask them they will be happy to cook for you.
DRINKS
note you have to pay for the fresh glassed fruit juices they come round and try and offer you at dinner and breakfast. The cocktails are loveley, they beer is of a Fosters taste. spirits are local brands as normal in all hotels, but this hotel does NOT to barcadi/white rum. The inside reception bar is a Paying bar.
POOL
you will never feel something so cold in all your life we went in Dec and it was 31.C but no one used the pool it was like swimming in ice, pool was massive, beautifully designed, incase your looking for the kids there are no slides etc. At night the pool lights and palm trees are one of the most amazing sights you will see. You need to be up at 6am to get a sun bed at the front (no shaddow overcasts hit the front beds)
STAFF
the kitchen staff remember what you eat/like in the mornings for breakfast. the bar staff remember your drinks. they waiters are very very friendly and do not hold back on making comments about your mrs, but that is understandable as they can marry up to 5 wives and the joke does wear a little thin after a few days. The staff are on a low wage as said hundreds of times before but tip them no more than £1, they cannot change £1 coins to their money in egypt so every so often will ask for a note, but they way they ask is a little confusing but they will swap their coins for your note... personally i get £40 changed in to single usa dollar bills which is the equiv of 50p each, and they are more than happy with $1 which they can change easilly.
The hotel was the best hotel we have ever been, would go again and recommend to everyone, my points above may seem a little negative but i am trying to show you that despite the little misshaps we still think the positives 'blow' the negatives out the water.
SURROUNDINGS
Conturary to people who have been to ciaro or luxor, there are no screaming kids around you begging for money at all like the picture i was made to believe. they do try and get you in to the tat shops which is a pain, rememebr just say no. KFC, Micky D's, Hardrock are al local.KFC is 1/10th of our price, hardrock is the exact same price, two cocktails and two mains £30. Two local british bars, the camal bar which seems to be the best, both show premiership footy on sat. I know the lads want to know this.
FINALLY
scuba diving is a must, we went, we found nemo. it was like dunking your head in a tropical fish tank, a complete mind trip. Buy your snorkle and flippers etc in england its cheaper.
