“Royal Savoy - dream come true”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

Apr 23, 2008

My girlfriend and I have just returned from a one week break in the Royal Savoy. The reviews on the Trip Advisor are varied and I was pensive as to whether the resort was a good choice. However we enjoyed our break away immensely but there are a few areas that I would like to advise other people on.

In order to get the best deal I would suggest calling around various agents - Thomas Cook were VERY competitive and we used their quote to drive down the price at other Agents. In the end for one week, half board in the Royal Savoy we paid £810 each, though we did only book a few weeks in advance.

The £810 included, free transfers to and from the Hotel, a private area for breakfast, Free alcoholic and soft drinks from the pool bar and lounge between 12 -8 pm, free canapés and fresh fruit throughout the day. A private swimming pool and 25% off dinner and drinks in other restaurants (except the Eest restaurant - no discount). All the above they are reluctant to tell you and we had to ask numerous questions to find all this out.

The room was large and spacious with a four poster bed, nice size bathroom, small lounge area and balcony, we were located on the ground floor and therefore you do NOT get a sea view as stated in the brochure and travel agent, due to the palm trees in the way and the lay of the land is not conducive to seeing much. Each day the linen would be changed and fresh cakes would be placed in the room.

The staff are friendly and helpful; a small amount of tipping at the beginning is not essential but often helps (by small amount I mean £10 throughout the whole week we stayed).

We only went to two restaurants as they book up VERY quickly, you have to call at 1pm as by around 3pm they are all fully booked. The Tirana restaurant is awful, equivalent to school dinners and mass produced food, bland and rubbery, however we had a 25% discount and we went to the Sea Food Restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed. It is also good value for money, two Maine Lobster tails and drinks came to around £40.

The other downfall of the bars and restaurants is the cleanliness of the glasses, they only seem to rinse them rather then wash them. Also you may have to ask a few times for items such as water, drinks or ketchup, as they seem to forget.

The Egyptian massage is worth a try and good value for money £40 for an hour.

The beach is not as great as it looks and no romantic walks along it as it is busy during the day and not very long, the sand is also rather rough and my girlfriend cut her foot either on a shard of glass or maybe the sand itself.

We went to the local market via the free bus transfer, book this early as it is busy and you wont get a slot unless you do. Its good fun to haggle with the locals but decrease their prices by at least half, though they will negotiate it up you will still get what you want for a reasonable price.

Pools - there are 3 pools for everyone and one restricted for Royal Savoy guests. The pools are freezing cold all day and therefore rather empty (take a lilo with you as there is plenty of room). I have never seen SO many topless sunbathers and g-string bikinis, so be warned if you are on a family holiday. At least 35% of the women (mostly Russian but some English also) felt it necessary to either sunbathe topless and have thong bikinis, it is slightly off putting as some walk around and some are also in the pool.

On a daily basis they encourage a water aerobics class, however it is more like people messing around in the pool then real Aerobics, the music is 90's chart music and whilst they flail around they shout and whoop with joy! So dont sit near them as it is a bit ridiculous and not really a work out of any sort.

The Sharm airport is rather light on shops and the prices are not that low so it may be worthwhile buying your items from Gatwick.

The holiday was amazing and we enjoyed every moment of it and we spent in total around £1000 each, it was great value for money and a relaxing one week break. I would return there and also recommend this to others. I would say that you should stay in the Royal Savoy as it can get a bit busy and loud by the other pools.

hope this is of help

“Let Down by the Food and Beverage”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

My Family and I enjoyed a relaxing time at this hotel. The place is spotless and impressive ,but let down by the staffs execution .The management admitted that the costal hotel market is ultra competitive and staff come and go .The staff don't know how to make an acholic drink and never drink and test them.(At nearly 10 euros a throw they ought to)
The food is the same .It feels like a rip off ,although I believe they just dont have ability at managemement.Your not looked after.I have never seen so muuch food and beverage thrown away .What a waste .Training is ongoing but never lasts.I am not saying its horrible but everything is with chips .Fish can be cold but not fresh.During peak times you have to wait 30 min for a table .Other holiday makers were of the same opinion. The large buffet breakfast hall is overun with guests and disorganised staff. We ate out most of the time in Old Sharm Market which was fantastic.Go Bed and Breakfast if you must.We would not revist this hotel on this basis.Nice people- all completly out of their depth!4 star at best.Watch for the expensive 5 min water sports 35 euro a person.

“Pleasant Surprise”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

I wanted to go to dubai again but mrs milo insisted on trying sharm. She won and i'm pleased she did. Used this site to research a good hotel and came up with the Savoy. On the advice of other travellers we upgraded to the Royal Savoy, and stayed all inclusive (S class) I must admit I was more than a little apprehensive about going to Egypt never mind Sharm and was worried that I would spend the week making comparisons with Dubai.I needn't have worried There is nothing bad I can say about our stay , it was brilliant, but on speaking to guests in the ordinary savoy we did the right thing in upgrading. There is nothing further to add that hasn't already been said about this hotel in the positive sense. The rooms, pools, beach, bars, food, staff, etc were all very very good. We were especially impressed by the choice of al a carte restaurants. At the time of writting there were five, plus the Tirana buffet, and a Chineese will be opened later this month ,along with an Indian in a new complex across from the main entrance.I could go on but would only be repeating other guests comments and tips. All I would add isthat you can't please everyone, as previous reviews relect, but the percentage of good things said about the savoy far outway the negative. So don't be put off. But do upgrade to the Royal if you can.
Would we go back YES, later on this year Instead of Dubai,( it 's a grand cheaper and All Inc )

“Lovely hotel, shame about the rooms.”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

We have just got home from a week in the Savoy. It is a really nice hotel and deserves the 5 star status. The surroundings, the gardens, the 3 pools, the beech and the returants are fantastic. The whole hotel is stunning and very clean. However i have one critism the rooms were not 5 star, the bathrooms were not cleaned to a high standard and the bedrooms need a makeover as they are a little tired.
The people who work in the hotel are very friendly, however if you are all inclusive or S class as they call it you are treated with a little more attention, as you can guess we were not!!
If you can afford it then i would recommend a up grade to royal savoy which looks amazing. We tried but were told it was fully booked.
I would without a doubt go back to this hotel as we really enjoyed our holiday, the weather, the food and the service were all outstanding. ( Try the seafood pasta in the itallian, stunning.)
Having spoken to other guests in the hotel, the savoy is one of the best hotels in Sharm and well worth a visit.
Dont miss out on the diving, snorkaling or the amazing sea spy or submirine trip.

“Great breakfasts”

Savoy Sharm El Sheikh

Apr 12, 2008

We stayed for a chill-out week in April. The location is ideal - just 10 minutes by taxi from the airport, although only about a quarter of a mile as the crow flies! Nevertheless there is no disturbance from the planes. Make sure you haggle with the taxi driver - he tried to charge us £25 to start with, which we got down to £10 and on our return journey, with some help from a local, we paid £6.
The facilities are good - there is a quite large beach and plenty of sunbeds there and at the pool. Our standard room had everything you needed, including bathrobes, tea and coffee etc. and an evening service when the bathroom was cleaned again, beds turned down and little chocolates left for us.
The staff were mostly very good, especially the long suffering guest relations person, who seemed to have the hardest job of the lot - plenty of people seemed to have something to complain about, including us - see below...
We went B&B, although most guests seemed to be on all inclusive terms and we felt we were made to feel second class, although our view was that as we got to select from full menus instead of a limited choice, and could buy better wine by the bottle, instead of just by the glass, ours was a better deal unless you really wanted to over indulge!
The buffet breakfast was excellent, with lots of choice aimed at the different nationalities staying there - mainly Brits and Russians. There were several restaurants of varying standards. The main one was self service buffet style and felt a bit like a feeeding station rather than a dining expereince in the evenings. The a la carte restaurants were better, especially the Italian one, but for all these you needed to book. Bookings were only taken between 1pm and 5pm, although when we first arrived , we were not told of this, and ended up having to complain to the deputy general manager before we could get a meal on the first night! They were quite rigid about the booking system and we saw people turned away from restaurants with plenty of empty tables, because they hadn't booked.
Opening times of bars was another problem for us - the beach and pool bars close at sunset (defined quite early by some of the bar staff) leaving nowhere where you could get a beer before you had showered and changed out of beach/tennis clothes
if you want to play any serious tennis this hotel is not for you - the 2 clay courts are very poorly maintained and virtually unplayable unless you just volley!
We enjoyed the stay, but if we went back to Sharm would probably try a different hotel.
