“3rd time in 2 years, says it all really”

Sharm Inn Amarein Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Ospreylia
Mar 26, 2008

We have just returned from our 3rd trip to this hotel in 2 years. last year we went in January and when we returned in March we were pleasantly surprised that all the staff remembered us, for this to happen after 12 months was an overwhelming surprise and to be greeted at reception by the manager saying "Welcome home" made us feel really welcome.

We had booked the accommodation through Thomas Cook and the flight direct with BA rather than take a package, as we needed to fly on a Saturday a quick email to the hotel and a limo was waiting for us at the airport, well worth the £15.

All the staff were pleasant, friendly, efficient, courteous and above all gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble.

We went to the bar every day, lunch time and evenings, we paid the bill after every visit, never any problem with "No change"

We stayed on a B&B basis, a huge selection of pan european food, cereal, eggs any way you want them, salad, cold meats, cheese, toast, rolls, bread, potatoes in different forms sausages with onions and peppers, the list goes on all washed down with tea, coffee or juice on tap.

We were in the pool every day, a refreshing experience which to be honest was what I wanted, not a hot bath!

A new attraction this year is an Egyptian night in the fish restraunt
this was good value for £10 which covered both an excellent buffet and well received entertainment and I would recomend this to anyone.

The rooms are not the best lit in the world, though the bathroom is very bright, there is a light in the window bay which was not mentioned in another report, the beds are huge, there is a fridge in every room and they are kept impeccably clean by the friendly and trustworthy cleaners. We never managed to find a time when there was no hot water which is a big plus when you arrive in need of a shower.

A new addition to the hotel this year is an in house excursion outlet, we booked a Quad bike trip with them, on the arranged day I unfortunately fell ill and was unable to go, the trip was re arranged for the next day without fuss or cost, try that with a tour company rep on commission, and yes it was cheaper than from the tour company.

It's hard for me to find a downside to this hotel, in all honesty out of choice I would use the public beach rather than the one used by the hotel. There are 2 reasons for this, in my opinion the entry to the water is better as is the bar. A plus for the hotel beach is that you can hire masks for a minimal fee.

We ate out 9 times, each time we used the limo service, which if you have never used it before is a revelation, you only pay on the return, this ensures you are both there at the alloted time. You can set your watch by these polite English speaking guys and be embarrassed by the value, limos they are not, new family saloons they are.

You might have guessed by now that we will be back for some winter sun next March.

“It was a great holiday experience”

Sharm Inn Amarein Hotel

Mar 26, 2008

The hotel is very nice, with the beautiful lobby entrance. The pool area is very good and specious. We stayed with my sister, in a room upstairs righ above the pool area, it was a great view and the music didn;t bother us at all, as we spend a lot of time on a beach. Would most definately recommend going to EL Farnar beach, great and "cheap" snorkelling. As the tours that provide snorkelling and diving got there anyway.
We had a B&B option, and to be honest got tired of breakfast on the fourth day, no fruits, no juices(and fruits are very chep in Egypt), no coffee (just instant), no toast, not much cereals. We are happy that we didn't take all inclusive or Half board, as dining in Naama bay you will have a greater choice of food and can meet people. We didn;t get any towel sculptures in a room, so that was a bit dissapointing, when all our friends did :(
Overall i would definately recomend to stay in a hotel, the staff is very friendly and smile a lot, and will learn your name instantly. We have met so many people and made good friends.
P.S You can take the juices and fruits in your room just put it in a black bag or backpack and they will let you go.

“Had a FAB time”

Sharm Inn Amarein Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Nottingham
Mar 25, 2008

Had the best time during our stay in Egypt. The hotel is clean and well set out, the staff very nice and helpfull. The only thing that caused us some irritation, was that in order to keep the hotel so clean, the staff started work at 7am sweeping patios etc, and showed little regard for us holiday makers wanting a lie-in! Is it necessary to play rave music at 7am at the poolside bar? we thought not.
One night, we went to the traditional dancing, and sampled the buffet, but while the food was nice , and the dancing realy good entertainment, we were glad that we only went B&B and thus avoided having to put out our market elbows to ward off eastern european push-ins on a regular basis!
Breakfast was fine however, with nice tea, and a fair selection. Also as it went on for 3hours, there was no queing up.

You must try the Fantasia strip as an alternative to the main tourist centre. No free bus, but the taxi lads will take you there for 20£E. Plenty of shops ,bars etc at half price those in Naama Bay.
A Pint of Stella 20-25£E Naama Bay
2 pints of Stella 16£E Fantasia strip ! say no more

The best sea life is to be seen at EL Jemar, much better than the hotel beach, and only 40£E return in the hotel taxi. Here you can walk down a pontoon which takes you right to the fish!

“A few problems with this hotels.”

Sharm Inn Amarein Hotel

Mar 14, 2008

We have justed returened from a week stay at Sharm Inn Amarein hotel. The hotel was fine in a few areas but let down in a few.
A few problems were you could not bring in food and drink from outside so we had to buy drink from the hotel and it was not the cheapest I seen than in the supermarket located in Naam Bay.
The pool was so cool that I couldnt face going into everydays. Are room was located near the pool Bar, so there was music pump in out all day. We did find 4 cockroches in are room and when we complained about this, they moved us stranght away, with we were delighted about.
It was a relaxing hotel and the staff were friendly.

Management Response
SHARMINNGM, hotel manager
(Management representative)
Mar 18, 2008
let me seize this opportunity to thank you for your interest in Sharminn Amarein,we glad to explain to you the real situation concerning the last review ,.once we recieved the guest complain ,at the time we solved the problem directly and we applogized to the guest .
he mentioned that all staff was freindly as we have ahot line directly with the general manager and this the policy for the hotel as the hotel G.M used to audit and inspects all guests' rooms, hotel public areas, and all handling H.K duties every day.

By any way we aplogize for this situation and you are welcome for anext visit to sharminn Amarein
best regards

“Dark, dingy rooms and dreary food”

Sharm Inn Amarein Hotel

2 of 5 stars
Middlesbrough, England
Mar 6, 2008

Having just returned from a one-week break at the Sharm Inn I have got to say that my wife and I found both positive and negative points (as you would expect).

Overall we found our stay acceptable, but not without its problems. And we were so glad we went for the B&B option because on our first evening we were offered an opportunity to sample the fare at the hotel’s own restaurant and told that if we liked the food we could upgrade to Half Board at a discounted rate. However, after sampling the delights(?) of the buffet there was no way we would have considered eating anything but the breakfast (which was just passable) there as the food was quite frankly awful. If meat that wouldn’t be out of place worn on the feet of local people instead of flip-flops, along with tasteless potatoes and nasty-tasting vegetables don’t appeal to you then give the Sharm Inn a wide berth!

The rooms were an issue for us too. It may not be particularly easy to see from the photograph I’ve tried to post of a window, but they are unfortunately quite dingy. This is due to two factors. First, the large central panel of each rooms’ windows is actually made from carved wood.

Secondly, and this certainly applied to our room, the only electric lights were located just as you enter; plus one rather dingy lamp on a dressing table and one equally low wattage wall light at each side of the bed. There was no electric light in the centre of the main room so the only real light to be had was when the balcony door was open, which was fine during the day (when you are generally not in your room anyway!), but not a lot of use when it gets dark at 6pm!

I know it has been written elsewhere, but the pool really was absolutely freezing. It was so cold, in fact, that this was the first time I have ever not ventured into a hotel pool while I’ve been on holiday.

One of our major gripes though, was that whenever we purchased something from the pool bar we found that unless we had the correct money staff would insist that they had no change and they made(?) us put it on our room to be paid at a later date at reception. However, when subsequently attempting to pay the said bill at reception, unless it amounted to a round figure staff there would also say that they had no change either and asked you to pay later. The bill, therefore, would just become larger and larger. We much prefer to pay at the time of purchase as it is undoubtedly easier to keep track of things – particularly when you are in a foreign country. To illustrate the pitfalls we personally witnessed one slightly embarrassing incident where two English tourists and the receptionist disputed a bill. I’d hazard a guess that this couple don’t return!

What made this even worse in our eyes was that after we settled our bill and checked out we both had a drink at the pool bar while we waited for transport to the airport. As usual the barman said he had no change and asked that we sign for the drinks. We told him we were leaving imminently so he advised that we go to reception and pay the bill.

After just a matter of minutes my wife was then informed by the same barman that we wouldn’t be able to pay at reception because, having checked out, we were no longer in the system (which of course we knew!). His advice was to go back to the bar and make the payment (despite the fact that, as he has already stated, they had no change). On doing this we were amazed to find that one member of staff there seemed to be holding the entire contents of the Egyptian Mint in his hands and, far from not having any change, was in possession of wads of notes of every denomination (and no, there had not just been a delivery from Securicor!).

Some (and I mean some!) of the staff were very good. Others were not so good. Abdul, who cleaned our room was superb, as too was a chap in the main restaurant at breakfast time. Some others, unfortunately, made no real effort to make visitors feel welcome.

On the positive side the Sharm Inn is a quiet hotel in a quiet part of Sharm (Hadaba) (which was precisely what we wanted!)). The rooms were kept clean, any problems were usually dealt with quite efficiently and the pool area was well maintained. And as I was also recovering from surgery I found the gym well equipped and very useful. But… this is most definitely not the 4 star it is supposed to be and while we were satisfied (just!) we would not recommend the place to our friends and certainly wouldn’t consider returning there ourselves.
