just got back from sunny sharm El-Sheikh. stayed at Sol Y Mar Sharming Inn. The taxi cost £18 which was dearer than the £10 the hotel charged for the return journey. Our room was large with air con (thank god!). but the bathroom!!!! it was a disgrace. The bath had rust stains in it and we were lucky if we got warm water out of the shower, sometimes the water would stop coming out whilst in the shower!
the cleaners did their best and always changed towels and linen every day, as well as making some interesting origami with the towel, or blankets.
the food was very repetative. although they had different country themes for the evening meal, really it was just a chance for the waiters to change their tunics. none of the food was piping hot, unless you had the eggs prepared in front of you for breakfast.
disapponted that they did not leave some dinner for us on arrival as we did not arrive until about 11.30pm and had to buy food for the children.
the pool is spectacular, but be warned that there is always someone walking around trying to sell you a massage, hair braid, scuba trip etc. after a couple of days of saying no they do get the message.
although the hotel states that the beach is only 300m away. you do need to get the free shuttle bus, we would normally walk that distance easily, but you have to go through a building site to get there.
disappointed with the beach, there is no sand as such for the kids to play in, just like grit. need shoes on to go in the sea as quite sharp rocks to begin with, then coral. there is a gangway you can walk on that gets you to a platform in the sea. great for adults but not really suitable for tots as there was no safety rope around the platform and as you moved with the sea's movements, you could easily fall into the sea.
the fish in the sea were amazing though and you didn't need to go on the platform to see them as they swam in the shallow rocks as well.
great for scuba divers though.
there was not much for the kids to do other than go in the pool, play table tennis or pool. the evening entertainment consisted of one guy mostly who did put on some good perfomances but is not happy for you just to watch and likes the audience to participate.
the drinks from the pool bar are served in little pepsi cups so doesn't go very far. you can buy a bottle of water and keep refilling it in the dining room for free.
went to Naama Bay and did not like it at all. cheap, tacky and hassled very much
We would go to Eygpt again but not to this particular area as just surrounded by hotels and building work.
