Hubby + I stayed half-board here one night. When we arrived @ 0900 from the airport, (We had booked this on-line)They did not inform us that we had to lug our luggage from the road to the hotel due to security. They made us wait over half an hour for our room as it was not ready when all I wanted to do was leave the luggage + go check out Naama Bay . Finally got my message thru with no room ready still. Very sterile + reception was not even aware that it was my hubby's birthday the next day. Not even a word of greeting in that respect. Rooms clean. Food was buffet dinner + buffet breakfast. Loads of Russians. Position, it was great:(That was why I chose this place.) Next day reception couldn't help us regarding the public bus for DAHAB. We did it ourselves.

This hotel is in a great location at the end of Naama Bay, far enough away from the action to be quiet but close enough to walk to everything. Great private beach 5 minutes walk from hotel with free towels and sunbeds. Fantastic breakfast buffet. Staff extremely polite and helpful. Pool and other facilities clean and well maintained. Our room was a little scruffy, particularly the bathroom, but I don’t think this was typical. Our biggest gripe was the volume of the music in the restaurant/bar late at night which resonates around the enclosed pool area and is quite deafening at times, even in your room. If this is likely to worry you ask for a room at the back rather than overlooking the pool. The view might not be so good but you may get a better night’s sleep. Overall though a good experience.

I have just returned from a wonderful week in Sharm el Sheikh at the Kahramana Hotel with my boyfriend. I would recommend this hotel for a budget, good value winter break to the sun (for £245 for a week, you really can’t complain). Having read the reviews on here, we were expecting the worst. However, we had a nice sized room (3205), with an enormous bed and a full pool view. The shower area was a bit dicey looking, but the water was nice and hot and it was clean. The towels and sheets were clean (just don’t look at the mattress or protector..!!!). The staff were lovely and the pool area was great – a bit shabby round the edges, but the pool was big and the sunbeds were comfortable, again, with nice, fresh, clean towels to relax on.

The best thing about the hotel was definitely the location. Some people we met complained that although their hotels were very nice, they were miles out of Naa’ma Bay. The Kahramana is a few steps from the strip of bars, restaurants, cafes, clubs and shops but from our hotel room, we couldn’t hear any noise. Naa’ma Bay is, however, on the flight path, but you get used to the occasional plane flying by.

We went on a Bed & Breakfast basis, which was fine. The food was tailored towards the Russian and Egyptian guests, but the omelettes and chocolate crepes were divine. We didn’t experience any pushing and shoving and had no trouble getting a sunbed by the pool, or on the beach, which was a 5 minute walk away (and very nice), but then maybe we went out of season.

The only thing that spoilt the holiday a bit was the music by the pool. Despite asking them to turn it down, they simply didn’t want to know. The music from the bar, by reception, was thumping, but again, get the right room and you won’t hear it.

All in all, a great week and we would definitely go back there. If you don’t like the heat, don’t go later than February, as it was getting very hot even by 10th of the month. It’s cool in the evenings, so take a couple of jumpers and a jacket. Also, a day trip to Tiran Island is fab and you don’t need to get a visa for it. We booked with Sun n Fun, just by the Hilton Fayrouz on the promenade and Saaed was a fab guide, especially if you’re not confident in the water.

We (Mum, Dad and adult daughter) stayed at the Kahramana 14 - 21 Kan 2008.We had a really nice room (No3218), a king size bed, TV and mini-fridge (it's NOT meant to be a mini-bar) and a single bed in an adjoining alcove area. Balcony was tiny, just about big enough for one adult at a time!

Housekeeping was very good. Clean towels every day, clean sheets every other day. Room was always left neat and tidy and often towels were formed into exotic sculptures adorned with petals and leaves. I tipped our houseboy 20LE a day (GBP2) so that perhaps made a difference....

Only down-side is the shower - the screens separating the shower tray from the rest of the bathroom are really pretty old and is quite delicate, and would simply collapse if you put any weight on them. The access door is a bit tight for the 'larger' person (which I am!). There was also an issue with the lack of hot water. This seemed to be hotel wide, but there were maintenance men working on it. Incidentally if you don't like liquid soap you'd better take your own favourite bar of soap coz liquid is all the hotel provides.

The room decor is beginning to look a bit tired, but a refurbishment programme is under way and it appears several rooms are being upgraded each week.

We found no problem with the pool - except a bit chilly, but it's clean and the water is chemically analysed at least weekly. The poolside music was played at quite an acceptable volume. Poolside bar is OK, but service is slow, but who cares - you're on holiday! Give a small tip to the sun-bed attendant each day and you will be assured of the same location !

Can't make much comment about the food, except breakfast. That was OK, but after a week it began to get predictable and a bit boring boring. There's cereals, juices, cold meats, cheeses, sweet pastries, fresh fruit, a choice of hot eggs cooked specially the way you like them, and some hot Egyptian items that didn''t take our fancy (but beware of the spicy sausage!). The dining room is a bit gloomy during daylight, but looks OK at night.

The Tequla bar (upstairs from the Reception) is a joke - rubbish music played painfully much too loud. Just ignore the place and go somewhere else.

Front desk people are polite and do their job ok, but seem to lack friendliness towards the visitors. The safe deposit system works fine (charged at EUR5 a day, but losing the key will cost you a fortune!!).

This is our second stay at the Kahramana and third visit to Sharm el Sheikh. The hotel is well situated right in the centre of Naama Bay, a couple of minutes walk to both the beach promenade and the main taxi rank, if you wish to visit Old Sharm (go there at night when it's very colourful and lively).

During the day in mid-January the temp was about 25C/75F and it felt delightful. But once the sun set - at 5pm in January - it felt remarkably cold. We took jumpers and fleeces and needed them.

We heartily recommend Namma Bay and the Kahramana, but advise you to check the tour operators - there a substantial differences between then
