Before travelling to this hotel I was very apprehensive after reading some reviews. Upon arrival, the reception staff were excellent, telling us to go into the restaurant to get something to eat before it closed and that they would sort the rooms out for us after we had eaten. Travelling with my husband and two children aged 10 and 16, we had booked a family room, we were allocated two rooms side by side with interconnecting doors, very clean, large and to a very good standard. No noise was heard from any other room the whole of the stay.

It is correct to say as with many other parts of Egypt there were very few English holiday makers.

The food was good, the pools clean. I cannot comment on the evening entertainment as I never went to any of the shows, from speaking to other guests, I am lead to believe that they were not in English. This was not a problem to us as after long hot days in August it was nice to go back to your air conditioned room and just chill out. We had bought to bottles of spirits at the airport and used to fetch soft drinks from the bar and make our own drinks in the room.

From this hotel I did three trips, the two day trip to Luxor organised through Med Hotels (Excellent), Quad biking, and a full days snorkelling trip.

The wellness centre for the sauna, massage, steam room etc. are excellent and well worth the money.

Have now stayed at this hotel twice in the last six months, and each time I have had a throughly great time. The staff are so friendly and will do anything for you, all speak very good english.
It is true that the main visitors to the hotel are russian and german but I have met some lovely english people who go back year after year. The food is good, always plenty to choose from, the pastries at breakfast are to die for! The staff on the beach are very attentive and are always on hand if you need anything. You do get bothered a little from staff attempting to get you to go on the trips, I can recommend the boat trip from the hotel aqua centre (based on the beach) Abdul is one of the best sellers on the beach - very cheeky and will make you laugh!! It is also true that the beach is not the best as the sea does go out far, but if you walk along the jetty you can go swimming from there, it's lovely as you can also go snoorkling.

I have been to Egypt three times and on the third, I stayed in this hotel just over a year ago and i thought that it was absolutely fantastic, the staff were very friendly and could speak rather good english, the food was wonderful and in no way tasteless, the reason there are so many germans there is becasue it is s agerman hotel and i actually made friends with some of them anad i am in regular touch with them. the sea isn't great but i am not a keen diver, the boat trips organised through the hotel dive centre are absoutely fantastic, i throughly enjoyed the day out with Mido and the crew! I stayed there with my mum dad n two younger sisters and i loved everyday of it and i would love to back to this hotel again!

We booked this holiday with some more family members and must say we had a great time. The rooms were a little dated but they were cleaned everyday with new sheets and towels and the shower was always hot and powerful, so new real complaints. No english speaking TV channels but this did not bother us. The food was hot and plentiful with lots of choice to please all. Same goes with the drinks and being all inclusive was great. The real gem of this hotel though has to be the pool complex. A very large, clean and suprisingly warm main pool near the main hotel and the long, windy shallow nile all the way to the other smaller main pool near the beach. On the way by the pool nile are shops and a childrens play area with another small shallow kiddy pool, mini golf and restaurants. The beach itself is nice with sunbeds and wind breaks however as in previous reviews you do have to go a long way to be able to snorkel and we found walking along the jetty and jumping off was the best way. On the beach you can go donkey or camel riding and book boat trips. We booked a boat for the 13 of us and it worked out about £35 a head with drink and lunch. Definately worth it the snorkelling was fantastic and we saw and swam with dolphins in the wild, which was amazing. There are very few English but we did not mind this as the staff all spoke English and did not have any problems with any other holiday makers. If you like your tour rep type of entertainment, karaoke etc then this hotel will not be with you but if you like a decent meal and some drinks after this hotel will suit you perfectly. We had a few issues with being allocated the wrong room etc but true to his word the receptionist sorted it out so if you have any problems they will sort them for you. Taxis into Hurghada shopping are really cheap but I wouldn't relly recommend this town for kids. We also got a cab to the Hard Rock Cafe which was great. I would also recommend Cairo if you get the chance to go. We booked through Memphis Tours from the UK and flew and they were briliant. All in all we would all return to the Calimera if going to Hurghada again.

“Very good hotel x awful beach”

About 7 years old hotel situated cca 20 km northern from Hurghada. Main 4 floor building - rooms with view to the garden or in front of the hotel (road, wind power stations, desert and ... nothing) - and two 2 floor blocks - rooms with view mostly to the garden. Garden and the swimming pools are excellent and well maintained. Two main pools are connected by (as they say) the longest hotel pool in Egypt called "Nille" - but no good for swimming (only 90 cm of water) + pool for kids and training pool for diving. Hardworking and friendly staff. Everything (rooms, garden, pools, beach) daily cleaned. Food very good - every day chicken, beef, fish - but in different preparation. All served in main restaurant, but the lunch also by the beach bar (limited choice of food, no sweets) or You can book place in an Italian or oriental restaurant on the hotel area through reception a day before. Tourists approx. 40% German, 30% Russian, 10% Dutch, 10% Czech, 10% Others. Hotel offers its taxi for tours to the center ofHurghada. The only but the MAIN problem is the beach. You have to walk cca 400m by water or on a "wharf" to have a chance to swim in open sea. The depth of water by the beach is first 300m only 50-90cm ! (by ebb only 10-20cm !!!!) - see pictures. I can not recomend it for sea swimming lovers. The regular walk 400m there and back is in a hot days very tyring.
