The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh
We booked for the third time a break in the sun over the Easter at the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh and had a wonderful time
The Hotel is excellent. The staff were fantastic and very helpful - the sort of service where although you never felt intimidated the staff were there whenever you needed something. Very professional.
1*Check-in was a breeze, we were offered a welcoming drink in the reception area while all the paperwork was done for us. Also very nice was that they asked for our vouchers for the flight back home. If anything would change, they would contact us so we can had than a full day by the beach instead of needlessly waiting at the airport. You also got a small tour of the hotel when You arrived, which is very nice.
2*The suites are great , large , spacious with a sitting area and two televisions, dvd,cd
Rooms are clean and spacious. Flowers, fruit and a complimentary bottle of water every day is a nice touch. Bathroom is huge, the shower is a dream. Crack open the glass window in your shower and you feel like showering in a garden!
The sunken bath wasn't very clean though, so we never used it. Also took forever to fill up.
In your room is a whole 'spa-menu' you can choose from.
The minor gripes of the suites are the beds!!!! The are VERY, very hard and there is not a choice of pillows. Every morning we stand up with pain in the back.
3*The dinner and the food was fantastic.
The service is superb. The staff is so well trained, they see every little detail. Breakfast was great, at first we were a bit disappointed, because it all seemed so little. Not to worry, there is a huge à-la-carte menu available.
Food at night was great. The chef is from India, we ate à-la-carte every evening and every single night, not one thing on the menu was the same.
It was very hard to fault the hotel but we had two minor gripes as follows
1) The price of champagne is stupid expensive. The imported wine is also very expensive. Alcoholic drinks aren't that cheap, but we especially found the white Egyptian Chardonnay wine and the rosé very good (especially for Egyptian wine).
If you like champagne whilst on holiday I suggest you take it with you or buy some at the airport. Staff will bring you ice and glasses and you can drink in the seclusion of your suite.
2) There is a service charge of 12.5% on everything and then a government tax of 10% so food and drink that seems reasonable gets 22.5% added. See above where champagne gets very painful.
4*The pool area is wonderful. Poolboys are very helpful, setting up the umbrellas, bringing new towels. If you dare to touch your sunbed to move it, they come to help you. I have never seen anyone run so fast to carry my sunbed. it's the staff's job to move them for you you into a comfortable position by the pool. Only the pillows of the sunbeds can better replaced.(Not so clean)
Also terrfific are the free cold drinks, cold towels etc. Food again was very good in the Pergola (at the swimmingpool )
We travelled also last year to Sharm El Sheikh, where we stayed at the Four Seasons. We expected the Four Seasons better than the Oberoi but we were disappointed
This hotel is even better .. Service is efficient and friendly . Rooms are big, ….
We suddenly paid more at the Four Seasons Sharm than at the Oberoi in Sahl Hasheesh
If you want to stay at an excellent hotel on the Red Sea coast,go to the Oberoi
The Oberoi is a great hotel, maybe not the best in the world, but definitely the best in Hurhghada and you have to keep in mind: you're in Egypt.
We had a wonderful stay and might staying there again next year.!!!
