The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh

We booked for the third time a break in the sun over the Easter at the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh and had a wonderful time
The Hotel is excellent. The staff were fantastic and very helpful - the sort of service where although you never felt intimidated the staff were there whenever you needed something. Very professional.

1*Check-in was a breeze, we were offered a welcoming drink in the reception area while all the paperwork was done for us. Also very nice was that they asked for our vouchers for the flight back home. If anything would change, they would contact us so we can had than a full day by the beach instead of needlessly waiting at the airport. You also got a small tour of the hotel when You arrived, which is very nice.

2*The suites are great , large , spacious with a sitting area and two televisions, dvd,cd
Rooms are clean and spacious. Flowers, fruit and a complimentary bottle of water every day is a nice touch. Bathroom is huge, the shower is a dream. Crack open the glass window in your shower and you feel like showering in a garden!
The sunken bath wasn't very clean though, so we never used it. Also took forever to fill up.
In your room is a whole 'spa-menu' you can choose from.
The minor gripes of the suites are the beds!!!! The are VERY, very hard and there is not a choice of pillows. Every morning we stand up with pain in the back.

3*The dinner and the food was fantastic.
The service is superb. The staff is so well trained, they see every little detail. Breakfast was great, at first we were a bit disappointed, because it all seemed so little. Not to worry, there is a huge à-la-carte menu available.
Food at night was great. The chef is from India, we ate à-la-carte every evening and every single night, not one thing on the menu was the same.
It was very hard to fault the hotel but we had two minor gripes as follows

1) The price of champagne is stupid expensive. The imported wine is also very expensive. Alcoholic drinks aren't that cheap, but we especially found the white Egyptian Chardonnay wine and the rosé very good (especially for Egyptian wine).
If you like champagne whilst on holiday I suggest you take it with you or buy some at the airport. Staff will bring you ice and glasses and you can drink in the seclusion of your suite.

2) There is a service charge of 12.5% on everything and then a government tax of 10% so food and drink that seems reasonable gets 22.5% added. See above where champagne gets very painful.

4*The pool area is wonderful. Poolboys are very helpful, setting up the umbrellas, bringing new towels. If you dare to touch your sunbed to move it, they come to help you. I have never seen anyone run so fast to carry my sunbed. it's the staff's job to move them for you you into a comfortable position by the pool. Only the pillows of the sunbeds can better replaced.(Not so clean)
Also terrfific are the free cold drinks, cold towels etc. Food again was very good in the Pergola (at the swimmingpool )

We travelled also last year to Sharm El Sheikh, where we stayed at the Four Seasons. We expected the Four Seasons better than the Oberoi but we were disappointed
This hotel is even better .. Service is efficient and friendly . Rooms are big, ….
We suddenly paid more at the Four Seasons Sharm than at the Oberoi in Sahl Hasheesh

If you want to stay at an excellent hotel on the Red Sea coast,go to the Oberoi
The Oberoi is a great hotel, maybe not the best in the world, but definitely the best in Hurhghada and you have to keep in mind: you're in Egypt.
We had a wonderful stay and might staying there again next year.!!!

We booked for a quick break in the sun over the Easter break.
The Hotel is excellent, staff solicitous,in fact sometimes over eager.
All the additions you would expect from Oberoi.
We booked a deluxe Suite. The room was spacious with a sitting area and two televisions. The beds are excellent and the staff at the Oberoi even give you a choice of pillows.
No fault with the bathroom either.Sunken bath, massage shower etc.
Most of the Hurghada is under construction and we only ventured into the town itself one. It's a half an hours drive but not expensive.Taxi from the hotel to old downtown and back £16.00.
Staff poolside at the Obeoi were terrfific.Free cold drinks.Cold towels etc.Full waiter service by the pool as you would expect, and don't dare touch a sunbed,it's the staff's job to move them for you you into a comfortable position by the pool.
Food average with a choice of two restaurants.
Lunch about £30-40,Dinner around £60.00.

“Hmm”

The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh

My experience was mixed. Some aspects of this hotel were great - a lovely private location, and fresh infrastructure. Others were very disappointing. In the latter category I'd put virtually all my dealings with the front desk. The driver assigned to pick me up at the airport failed to show, and when I called (late at night, when the town was cold and windy) I was initially told simply to wait 30 minutes because the car had broken down. File that under "not my problem". When I pushed the problem to management, they responded quickly, getting a replacement car to me in less than ten minutes, and made a much appreciated effort to apologise for this lapse. I was ready to forgive and forget, but I then faced problem after problem with front desk staff who simply didn't seem to understand the level of service expected at a hotel striving for five stars. For example, when I went to arrange my car back to the airport a full day before my departure, I was given many options (wake up call, breakfast box etc), all of which was scribbled out on a scrap of paper in front of me...not very reassuring. At the end of this the clerk asked, as if the thought had just struck him, if I also wanted a car to take me to the airport...kind of the point, as I had made clear. We then had another five minutes where I repeated the same information, i.e. the wake up call, the pick up time, the breakfast box. I asked him to confirm all this to me by email; when, six hours later, there was still no email, I had to contact the managers again - again I was reassured. Then, at 8:00 pm the night before I departed, I received a call from front desk asking if I wanted a wake up call, car to the airport...Very early the following morning, the wake up call was five minutes late, and I had to call twice to get picked up by the standard golf cart shuttle - my second call was fully ten minutes after the first, and yet the clerk was clearly annoyed that I was doubting his word. When I got to the front desk, the bill wasn't ready on arrival, and had to be printed out slowly. Items from the minibar that I'd had on my first day weren't charged yet, and when they discovered this there was a noticeably accusatory tone, as if it was my fault that the hotel hadn't bothered to restock the minibar in the several days I was there. Then when I went out to get into my car, my bags weren't there - while they had been picked up with me at my suite and placed in the same golf cart that I'd been driven in, they hadn't been removed from the cart and were being given a spontaneous tour of the hotel grounds when the driver went to pick up someone else. They reappeared, and were loaded in the car. I was then subjected an uninterrupted slow begging process from the car driver the entire way to the airport, despite having paid a small fortune to the hotel. (Yes, it is probably unkind/insensitive of me to begrudge such begging, a fine tradition there, but frankly I think the hotel could afford to pay the drivers a better than average wage in exchange for an explicit no tipping policy).

Unfortunately, while my direct experiences with the management were invariably positive, I have to conclude that they aren't making progress in instilling a genuine service mentality in the junior front desk staff. At a $100 or $150 hotel this would be forgivable; at a hotel charging five times that it is not.

The other problem I had was with the lack of sound insulation between my suite and my neighbors. There was a single connecting door that did nothing to prevent me from hearing everything going on next door, including the occupant humming along to music videos. Again, not at all in keeping with the private and tranquil image the hotel clearly wants to project.

This review is only about the The Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh hotel and not about the surroundings of the hotel/Eqypt.
The hotel was exccellent. We stayed in a Grand Suite for a week. This is a suite with a private swimming pool. Very expensive but worth it in our experience. When we arrived we got a suite in a location we didn't like with a lot of noice from some kind of machine. We immediately asked for another suite and after about an hour all our luggage was taken to a new suite. Great service!
Unfortunately we both got the flu that week (nothing to do with the food or the hotel whatsoever, we took it with us from Holland) so we weren't able to enjoy everything to the max. There were 2 nights we just couldn't make it to the restaurant so dinner was served on the terrace of our own pool. We called for a doctor and he came the same night and gave us some anti-biotics so we felt much better in the second half of the week. The restaurants serve delicious foods.
Service in the hotel is great, room are very clean. Great luxury (for a price though).
We also played some lovely golf on two different courses. The drive to the courses take about one hour.
