My partner and I have just returned back from a week stay at The Three Corners, Ocean View in El Gouna.
When we first arrived we were a bit confussed as the hotel is in 2 parts, the Soliel building which is the main building and the Du Port Building which is where we stayed in room 3374.
The room was fine, with a large comfy bed with a large bathroom and shower.
We had our own safe and fridge with complimentary bottled water in it.
The main building has a spacious reception area with a free bar and guest relations desk (which we didnt use as Thomas Cook's excursion prices were cheaper) and a number of passasge ways which lead you to different areas of the hotel. At the back, the door lead you to the terrace where all you see is water. Being surrounded by the marina, you saw alot of speed boats and jet skis. As you walk down you come to the main restaurant where you have your 3 meals of the day. Everybody is friendly and the choice of food throughout the day is fantastic. You are also able to dine around the other 2 restaurants in the other building where you receive a discount off of your bill. If you choose to sit outside to eat, you have a great view of the open ocean.
There are 2 main pools. The pool in the main building is the loud pool. The animation team hold water areobics and water polo in their everyday, however if you dont fancy walking to the other pool there is a private man made beach just behind where you can sunbath in peace. There is also a pontoon into the ocean where you can swim and feed the numerous fish around you.
The second pool however is so relaxing. You have a choice of 3 types of sunbeds, the original 1 person ones, the matresses on the floor for 2 people right next to the pool and finally the big 4 poster beds (which i reccomend!) Both pools have a bar area open from 10am where you can get your all inclusive drinks from. The Du Port pool also has a lunch area where you can pay a small supplement to have lunch there if you cant be bothered t walk over to the other building. In the evenings, The Du Port pool turns into a night club.
In the Du Port building is where you will find the spa and theatre which is where the animation try their best to entertain you. I dont reccomend the shows, however their bingo and quiz nights are quite fun!
The local area is beautiful. Hurghada is about a 40 minute coach ride but I wouldnt reccomend sight seeing there. The locals are rude and pushy, where as El Gouna is a different story. El Gouna is owned by 1 man who does not tolerance any trouble from the locals. We walked around the marina everynight which is about an hour there and back and the most hassle you would get would be from a bloke shouting Tuk Tuk at you as he passes you by in a Tuk Tuk. The Marina is full of beautiful boats, bars and restaurant. There is an English Pub but it is more like cubby hole in a dark alley, but all the same, the owner is very friendly. The restaurants are also nice and good for your money.
We flew with Thomas Cook and had the chance to do many excursions (unlike First Choice) we choose to do 2, a boat trip into the Red Sea for a day snorkling and swimming with the dolphins on the Galatae which is literally tied up on the door step of the hotel and a day trip to Mahmya Gifun Island which is an uninhibated island in the middle of the red sea where you can relax, go snorking or go knee deep into the water and see foot long parrot, angel and all other types of fish without having to do snorkling. Both trips were around £40 each which were well worth the money!!! The trips include lunch but you have to pay for drinks, cans are around 50LE each which is about 50p.
Overall this week was not long enough, we decided not to do the trips to Cairo or Luxor as many people came back saying it was too hot at 57 degrees and they had to stay on the coach that took 7 hours! Also the locals around these areas are conmen rude and unpleasent. We wouldnt reccomend this.
El Gouna is called the premiure destination of Egypt and it is. This would not be an ideal place to take children as there is nothing for them to do, but great for couples, honeymooners and friends just looking for a quiet relaxing holiday, which is better than going to the carribean and half the price!
