My friend and I stayed at the Econo Lodge 4th of July weekend. We had reservations at Resorts for Thurs night but every casino hotel was sold out for Fri night. We decided to take our chances with the Econo Lodge since it was right across the street from the Trop and we would be able to dine, gamble, and party there all night, and then just take a short walk to our hotel. They charged us $260 for one night when we paid $175 to stay at Resorts the night before! We pretty much had no choice since every other hotel was sold out. While checking in, 2 bummy looking guys walked in from the street looking for a bathroom to use (skeevy). The hotel rooms are accessible from the street so all you hear is noise and traffic from the street. The bathroom was so small that I wondered how an overweight person could have used the toilet. They did stock the bathroom with lots of towels which was one positive thing. The sheets on the beds were so thin they were see-through and there were cigarette holes in the blankets. The room stunk of cigarettes. The room did have a really good air conditioner though. The windows were filthy and looked like they'd never been cleaned. Our room overlooked the parking lot where hotel employees were bundling sheets and towels on the parking lot ground. The people staying in the room across from us were a loud group of guys drinking beer with their door open. I decided to park my car in the Trop parking lot where I felt it would be much safer. At night we couldnt sleep because there was screaming, banging, and fighting outside our door and we also heard the people in the room next to us getting busy. The walls were so paper thin that you could hear people sneeze and talk on their phones. We called every single hotel in AC to see if anyone had a cancellation and would be able to take us in. I can't understand how so many people with children were staying there. It was disgusting and I would never let my kids stay at a place like that. There is continental breakfast but it was so crowded that we just took some fruit and left. I understand that we weren't staying at the Borgata, but I can't believe that Econo Lodge would have the nerve to charge $260 for such a dump. The icing on the cake was the crackhead who came up to us while we were leaving our room. She told us she couldnt believe that we'd pay money to stay in such a bummy place. Unless you are a group of guys looking for a place to drink beer in AC, I would not recommend this place as it is unsafe and gross.
