OK, what can I say about the Miami Hotel......it was overall a pleasant stay. It's a very homey place, so different from the big casinos and a nice change of pace. The location is great, across from the Sands (soon to be closed) parking garage and just a block or two off the Boardwalk at mid-way. But, and it's a BIG but......there are a lot of problems with the place. The rooms are like closets, tiny! In the room I stayed in, luckily had an indoor bathroom, but the shower was just a waterproof cabinet with a pipe. The sink was outside of the bathroom, in the main room with the beds. Our door to the room didn't lock, so we spent the whole night with a chair propped up against the door. (I felt safe though, because you can't come upstairs without being escorted, the elevator is very old and no guests are allowed to operate it). The bathroom had no real door, it was just an accordian door. Outside was the red flashing VACANCY sign, blinking on and off, but we had curtains to block it out. The room was pretty dirty (except for the bed, it was spotless) and old and shabby. Everything was broken or really, REALLY old.
I must say, the workers were sweethearts.....very friendly, accomodating and willing to please. If you go, keep in mind that they have 2 huge dogs in the lobby (I guess for protection). They didn't bother us, but they look scary if you have a problem with dogs. One came up to me and wanted to be pet, so they aren't that bad at all.
If you just looking for a place to crash, this is a great place. If you are looking for clean, decent accomodations, stay away. You are better off going to one of the major casinos or one of the chain hotels. I'd go back, so it couldn't have been that bad! :)
