I just got back from a week at the Universal. Let me say that this was a sad experience. I guess I will start with the pros. Very large room, neat electronic gadet for lighting, and that's about it. Now the cons: the food ranged from inedible to horrific, they served raw hamburgers (despite the fact I sent it back four times and was still charged for it). One night they had an outdoor Cookout/buffet and it was raining, they kept all the uncovered food out in the rain on the buffet line. Housekeeping was dismal (there was vomit on the wall next to the toilet in our bathroom), our huge room was sparsely decorated and lacked furniture other than the rock hard bed wrapped in plastic. There was a hole in the wall with a bunch of wires stick in it however they were "crafty" enough to cover it with a peice of paper taped to the wall. The soap cosisted of a cheap wall mounted plastic dispenser with contained, "soap, shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner" but it was all the same liquid. The pool had a total of 5 lounge chairs, which I guess wasn't so bad since the pool wasn't very desirable to lounge at anyways (it was horrible). They didn't even provide towels for the beach or the pool, you had to bring your room towel. Speaking of the room towel, they didn't change them during your stay. The maids would just fold them back up for you to use the next day which made them really smelly and gross. We walked through all the other major resorts which was depressing since everything was so much nicer and similar price. Unlike the other reveiwer we paid $175 a night and it was a total rip off, considering we didn't have any room service, towel service, or those other things you expect from a 5 star hotel I would have rather stayed at a dump hotel. When we wanted to lounge by a pool we would sneak into the Horizon Resort (the best pool on the strip). On the beach they had a limited amount of huts with again no service, no towels, no padded seating. We had to go to the other hotels to utilize the beach facilities. Avoid this place unless the price is really right and you are willing to accept the fact there are no service and you cannot eat here either. One more thing, they pipe the hallways with the sound of crickets churping and you can hear it all night long.
